I filmed this old man listening to this metal band at the Iceland Culture Day in Reykjavík. I apologise if he is possibly more than physically disabled, I mean no offence...but I still find it funny, especially when he thinks about taking off when I ask him if he likes the music. Aaaaawwwwkwarrrd!

Today is cultural day and night in Reykjavik. Great festival, with lots of things for everybody. It started this morning with the Marathon,and other running activities. About 11.000 signed up for the running events. And all around downtown reykjavik there is music everywhere,and festivals for the chirdren and grown ups. The goverment ministers had their offices open today for the public,and they greeted everybody that came for a visit. I visited the Foreign secretary and the the Prime minister office. I took photos in the goverment building ,where the Prime minster has her officve. One of the photos is of a gift ,a broom,she got ,tho sweep up the courruption .

This video shows some of the places we visited during our family-trip June 2007. If you are going to Iceland, rent a car and drive around the island and get outside the "crowded" area - and use more than 3 days! I hope you can feel the atmosphere. It cannot be described in words and it is really hard using photos too.. Enjoy! The National Museum of Iceland In 2004 the National Museum of Iceland stood at a crossroad. The museum reopened its doors after extensive refurbishment and a modernised museum now offers a wide variety of services to its guests. The museum holdes a new, dynamic exhibition that fulfil all the modern standards required of such an establishment, housing the nation´s treasures. The role of the museum is to increase and relay knowledge of Icelandic cultural heritage, from the nation´s earliest settlement through to the modern day. At the National Museum the present meets the past. It is healthy for the Icelandic people to ask who they are, where they are going and what they want to represent. What can they learn from past generations? The National Museum displays objects that provide insight into Icelandic cultural history - displays that encourage visitors to dwell on the past, present and future. The Culture House is a venue for Icelandic national heritage in a nutshell. The operations mainly entail diverse exhibitions. Contracts are made with relevant institutions regarding short or long term exhibitions. The Culture House thus serves as a common centre for Icelandic cultural heritage institutions with high-quality exhibitions on selected national treasures. There are facilities for exhibitions, meetings, gatherings, lectures, artistic events, public ceremonies and other occasions. Exhibitions in the Culture House are expected to reflect the trends and currents in society and present varied past and present cultural aspects. The Culture House is a heritage building and its use today takes into consideration the building's protected status and historical value. The setting for exhibitions is the building itself, an architectural monument. It is thus important that the premises be respected when exhibitions are mounted so that visitors can enjoy the building fully. Numerous exhibitions have been on view since 2000 when the Culture House was inaugurated. The Culture House's featured exhibition is the Medieval Manuscripts -- Eddas and Sagas. Diverse events have been held in the Library Room and elsewhere in the building, including conferences, readings and concerts. The Culture House offers guided visits to groups and to students at all school levels. A guided tour of the exhibitions also includes a brief presentation on the building itself and its history. "What's beyond the horizon....." A short part of a song in the play "What's beyond the horizon". Performed at the prestigious Icelandic Culture House for Airwaves festival in 2009. At this point in the play Ísgerdur has just left her home country and has set out to discover a new one. The sea get's rough so Ísgerður sings this ancient lullaby to put her baby to sleep. The lullabies lyrics explain how she will always be there for her child and how she will always do anything to feed it.

Þingvellir is a site of historical, cultural, and geological importance and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland. Þingvellir National Park was founded in 1930 to protect the remains of the parliament site and was later expanded to protect natural phenomena in the surrounding area. Parliament or Alþingi was established at Þingvellir in 930 and remained there until 1789 Þingvellir was the center of Icelandic culture. Every year during the Commonwealth period, people would flock to Þingvellir from all over the country, sometimes numbering in the thousands. They set up dwellings with walls of turf and rock and temporary roofing and stayed in them for the two weeks of the assembly. Although the duties of the assembly were the real reason for going there, ordinary people gathered at Þingvellir for a wide variety of reasons. Merchants, sword-sharpeners and tanners would sell their goods and services, clowns performed and ale-makers brewed drinks for the assembly guests. News was told from distant parts; games and feasts were held. Young people met to make their plans, no less than leading national figures and experts in law. Itinerant farmhands looked for work and vagrants begged. Þingvellir was a meeting place for everyone in Iceland, laying the foundation for the language and literature that have been a prominent part of people's lives right up to the present day
