Sigur Rós - 'Heima' Film Trailer
Duration : 233 Seconds

www.sigur-ros.co.uk http Sigur Rós break their two-year silence to release their first-ever film and a companion album later this autumn. Filmed over two weeks last summer when the band undertook a free tour of Iceland, 'Heima' stands as a colossal labour of love - not to say grand folly - typical of this most exacting of bands. While most people set up a few cameras at, say, a festival, and call it a DVD, Sigur Rós decided they would push the boat (bus and plane) out for their debut venture into live film, hauling 40-plus people round 15 locations to the furthest flung corners of their homeland to create something, well, inspirational. On their way they went to ghost towns, outsider art shrines, national parks, small community halls and the absolute middle-of-nowhere-ness of the highland wilderness, as well as playing the largest gig of their career (and in Icelandic history) at their triumphant homecoming Reykjavik show. 'Heima' (Icelandic for "at home" or "homeland"), truly, shows Sigur Rós as never before. Whereas seeing the group live is normally a large-scale and sometimes overwhelming experience, making full use of lights and mesmeric visuals, 'Heima' was always intended to reveal more of what was actually going on on stage. It does this via long-held close-ups and a rare intimate proximity, without ever once breaking the spell. Loosely based on a documentary format - and including personal reflections from the band - 'Heima' also serves as an alternative primer ...

Eurovision 1991 - Iceland
Duration : 172 Seconds

For setheurovision94, this is Stefán & Eyfi performing "Draumur Um Nínu" ("A Dream About Nina"), the Icelandic entry at the 1991 Eurovision Song Contest. A very good song that nevertheless got lost in the strong year that was 1991, achieving only 15th place, however it's still amazingly popular and a cult classic in Iceland to this day, a singalong favourite at parties and festivals. Also, Stefán Hilmarsson (the man in the purple jacket) is still in music today, mostly leading his band Sálin hans Jóns míns, one of the longest-running bands in Iceland. Then Eyþór Arnalds (the celloist), while more into politics, also finds the time for music with Icelandic band Todmobile. (thanks to setheurovision94 for the info) Sorry for the quality of the video, but it was the only one I could find.

Icelandic Flatbread

Watch this audio slideshow on how 'flatbraud', traditional Icelandic flatbread—the oldest type of Icelandic bread—is made. Flatbread still enjoys widespread popularity in Iceland. It is usually served buttered and/or topped with 'hangikjöt' (smoked lamb), smoked salmon or trout and plays a big part in the upcoming Thorrablót mid-winter festivals.

Reykjavik, Iceland!!!
Duration : 459 Seconds

Hi Gang, Kevin Lynch and I decided to fly to Reykjavik to see the city and to explore Iceland. Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland and is a port city. Iceland is very far north at approximately 66 degrees latitude. The Vikings settled in Iceland. The country speaks the original Viking language, whereas in Norway were the language originated they don't speak it anymore. Iceland is an island completely made of lava. It has glaciers, mountains, lakes, geysers, and volcanoes. The capital city Reykjavik has population of about 120000 and the county has about 320000 inhabitants total. Reykjavik is known world wide for its night life, though it is expensive there the city never sleeps in the summer. We had 24 hours of daylight! and the clubs stay open until 7 am on the weekends. Wreck.....co-vik is what it should be named! We definitely took advantage of the 24 hour daylight our earlier words that we need to pace ourselves. I lost Kevin about 1 am and then I lost my jacket (with 3 new CDs in it) somewhere around 4 am. Kevin and I ran into to each other at 6:30 am on a street miles from down town, we laughed so hard I had tears coming out of my eyes! With the help of Kristie and Daniel Heidburg from New York, and photos and videos which I will not show here....I found the jacket (and CDs) 2 days later. It reminded me of the movie -The Hangover-. Thanks you guys for the help! During the day the streets are full of music from festivals and street musicians. The city is very clean ...

Minn hinsti dans Páll Óskar / Paul Oscar Eurovision 1997
Duration : 200 Seconds

Buy the CD now at www.nordicstore.net Icelandic TV station RUV chose Paul Oscar / Páll Óskar to represent Iceland in the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin. The song was "Minn Hinsti Dans", written by Trausti Haraldsson and Paul Oscar. The following is a portion of an interview with Paul Oscar made by german travel magazine Spartacus: "It's ten years ago that you were singing for Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest, you finished 20th? Did you ever regret having participated? How did the Song Contest affect your career?" I loved doing Eurovision and I don't give a shit about being 20th. The Dublin experience was the best 7 days of my life! Only good things came out of it. I'm making a lot of money because of it, even today. I met so many interesting people who are still my friends. I got to travel all over Europe, performing at gay clubs and Gay Pride festivals. I learned so much about the history of the Eurovision contest that made me love it even more. I'm still so proud of my performance, it turned out just the way I wanted and I'm so happy it inspired so many other people. I still sing the song "Minn Hinsti Dans" when I'm performing. It's a beautiful song, such an interesting mixture of melancholy and the power driven by dance beat. It has that tug-of-war that I'm especially interested in when it comes to music. That song changed my life, and through that I discovered my own Paul Oscar "sound", really. I look back and I wouldn't change a thing. The black bondage ...
