Julia David (in Hungarian: Dávid Júlia) is a glass painter, industrial designer, stage designer and designer from Transylvania. The artist after long years of experimental works created a unique glass staining technology and a special artistic style. Her artworks are characterized by staining on both sides of the glass, this way transparent and characteristic surfaces are following each other on the paintings. Miklos Nemeth.(1934 ) works, with their richness in colour, are sweeping away the present Eastern opinion of Europe states a Tokyo newspaper about the 1991 Tokyo-exhibition. Heated with unique colourism, his images of colours would attach him to Matisse, if this volcanic power, fall would not be emerging from inside. Nemeths' painter's soul draws the attention on himself with not only his rich colour-experience but also with his style free of boundaries. One looking at Nemeth's paintings can hardly escape from the view's suggestiveness. Nemeth's painting cannot be and it is not even worth comparing to anybodys as what he is representing is Mikos Nemeth's style itself.

This video is a tribute to the shaman and artist, Joska Soos (1921-2008). He grew up and was initiated, when he was still a child, in Hungary. After the Second World War he fled to Belgium and lived for a while in Brussels. He then moved to Antwerp where I met him in 1989. When I first visited him at his home I entered a world of light-sound beings, as he called them. The paintings in this video are from around that time when Joska was painting with the air-brush technique. Joska was initiated into sound, which is the highest level of initiation amongst shamans. During his rituals he was able to go into altered states and contact cosmic beings who exist purely as light and sound. They are very powerful and often they had to stay at great distance from him, otherwise his body would not be able to handle their energy emanations. As well as these powerful beings, everything else in the cosmos has a light-sound manifestation at the basic level. Entire galaxies can be seen as a light-sound manifestation, but also animals and humans for example. Joska believed that more people would start to paint what they see with their inner eye, and not just the outer world. The light-sound beings were a closely guarded secret amongst shamans, and it was forbidden to talk about it. Joska thought that it is time to spread this knowledge, as many people are presently expanding their consciousness, and are open to receive this information. "Schliere (du prisme à l'entaille)" for solo cimbalom was written for Luigi Gaggero. This is the recording of the world permiere. It is not a professional one but a live document. "Schliere" was commissioned by the Ensemble Linea Strasbourg. This work is basically based on two levels: both on paintings by the Hungarian painter Simon Hantaï and on a poem by Paul Celan that gives his title to this piece. The painter left us recently; on September 12th, 2008, he closed his eyes.
