In May 2010, 14 University of Oklahoma students embarked on the first Global Medical Brigade trip to provide medical care for underserved communities in rural Honduras. In doing so, they not only served over 500 patients in remote villages but also helped support the nonprofit orphanage of Sociedad Amigos de los Niños. Global Medical Brigade's non-profit structure meant we not only provided acute medical relief to hundreds of villagers but also worked towards providing orphans a sustainable environment from where they learn technical skills to succeed in Honduran society. Considering that Hugo Chavez, Venezuelan dictator, keeps threatening Honduras, while Obama says nothing about it, analysts consider that Chavez plans to promote caos in Honduras society in order to force his totalitarian regime to power. Some consider that Chavez wants to take military action against hondurans, but that fear of Palmerola (a US military base in Honduras) prevents Chavez from attacking Honduras. Therefore, he will try other means in order to achieve his purposes. For example, he could disguise his soldiers as if they were hondurans or could arm civilians in honduras to promote a Civil War. Also, he will try terrorists acts(killing civilians, bombs, etc) against supporters of the President Roberto Micheletti and freedom (most hondurans!). Some of this is already happening, bombs have been thrown in judicial courts and other public buildings. The mobs that favor Zelaya are violent and armed. They murdered a pro zelaya protester in tegucigalpa in order to blame the new government for it. Furthermore, there are citizens from nicaragua, venezuela and cuba in honduras. They are in the country in order to promote chaos disguised as hondurans!

This video was presented to our club to highlight the need our team found during our week in San Pedro Sula visiting orphanages and the Genesis Center. Our goal is to revive the center, with the help of local Rotarians and businesses and to create a vocational training center on site to provide meaningful job skills to aid as the orphan's "age out" and begin productive lives in Honduran society.

The Garifuna People - aka "Black Caribs" - can be found in different spots in the Caribbean. They are thought to be descendants of African slaves that were being transported in the 1600's and escaped via shipwreck. They have their own language, culture and society. PATRICIA RODAS BACA, Minister for Foreign affairs of Honduras, said three years ago, Manuel Zalaya, the President of her country, had come to propose honest, easy solutions to respond to the major challenges faced by society, and to diminish terrible differences between the rich and the poor. He had fought for the rights of migrants and the forgotten, she said. With simple and effective proposals, President Zalaya had constantly called for a fairer world that would lighten the burden of shame on the poor and the misery of the many. She said the President had also called for a world of tolerance, mutual respect and cooperation in order to build a better world. Criminal hoards, she said, had forced Honduras back to an issue it thought had been relegated to the past. She said that while she was speaking, the President was being held under siege by military forces. He was being menaced and everyone was holding their breath as the life of the President and the people was in peril, she warned. She held up her cell phone to the microphone so President Zelaya could address the Assembly via telephone from the Brazilin embassy in Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital, where he has been holed up for just over a week. Mr. Zelay said he wanted to dispel any doubts as to whether or not his country had been gripped by a dictatorship. Solidaridad de los Pueblos de la Tierra draws power from sources available to all people: the productivity of the Earth, compassion and mutual aid. ; We work to create a society that provides the necessities of life for all its members, not just those in positions of power. We recognize that peoples of Latin America, most notably Chiapas, Bolivia and Ecuador, have taken the lead in living sustainably. These popular movements continue to spread throughout Latin America, but they face (often violent) opposition from those who seek maximum profit no matter the social and environmental costs.Keeping campesinos and indigenous peoples poor allows a few rich people to maintain their wealth and power. So does accepting US military aid to expand the war on drugs. This is the situation in Central America. Starting with this reality and taking direction from our compañeros in Central America, we will add our individual skills to our shared fight for justice.
