The best known diver on the Honduran island of Utila is Gunter. He arrived in Utila in the 1970's. Since then he has logged thousands of dives on the coral reefs of the Caribbean Sea. Gunter is also known for his many stories related to the underwater world. One of them is about the day when he was bitten by a nurse shark. In addition to his work as a dive guide, Gunter produces jewelry, paintings, souvenirs and island maps. In his native Austria Gunter was a talented alpine skier, but for obvious reasons he has not done any skiing in Utila. Gunter's Underwater World is a short version of a longer tv / dvd documentary about Gunter.

L. Caruana was born 1962 in Toronto Canada, of Maltese descent. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Philosophy, and then studied painting at die Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna. In the year 2000 he apprenticed directly under Ernst Fuchs, working as his assistant in his studios in Monaco and Castillon. The artist has made his home variously in Toronto, Malta, Vienna, Munich, Monaco and Paris. During his wanderings he has actively recorded his dreams and expanded their imagery through mythology. His paintings are inspired by memories and dreams, experiments with entheogens, and the interplay of different cultural symbols and styles. His interest in sacred art and iconography has led to extensive travels, studying the spiritual traditions of Gothic and Renaissance Christianity (Western Europe), Byzantine Christianity (Eastern Europe), ancient Egypt (Egypt), Hinduism (India), Buddhism (Nepal, Tibet), Mayan and Aztec culture (Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras). After meeting his French fiançée in Munich, L. Caruana settled in Paris. From his studio in the Bastille quarter, he continues painting while editing The Visionary Revue: the On-line Journal of Visionary Art. Today he frequently travels to exhibit his works, deliver lectures on Visionary art and teach the Mischtechnik, particularly through his Visions in the Mischtechnik painting seminars in the eco-village of Torri Superiore Italy. www.lcaruana.com http

RAW 07.02.10 ART GALLERY EXHIBIT On Friday July 2nd, curator Carly Ivan Garcia along with the Oakland Art Murmur will present an exciting and innovative visual art show. The 500 square feet gallery space hosted by The Uptown will feature three artist's for the month of July: San Francisco based artist Robert Bowen has been exhibiting his artwork throughout the US for over ten years. His paintings combine pop culture imagery and photo-realist representations of the biological world. Bowen got his start through graffiti and street art, and went on to obtain a classical education as a painter. One see's an intensity and depth in Bowen's art that is undeniable. From Los Angeles, Erin Yoshi has left her imprint internationally, creating murals in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Colombia, Chile and across the US. Her attributes range as a painter/photographer, continuing a legacy of visual language with Trust Your Struggle Collective. In San Francisco Rozie Firoozabadi's abstract expressionist work is informed by her youth, her appreciation for modern street art, and her love of the human spirit. She uses color to portray powerful emotional responses to various transformative life experiences. Aside from working as an artist, she has taught art for nearly ten years. Rozie was educated at San Francisco State University and Yale University and has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with an Emphasis in Neuropsychology.
