Exotic Pets - Honduran Milk Snake - as part of the series on pets and animals by GeoBeats. We have a Honduran Milk Snake. This guy is native to Central America. He is going to get about three and a half to four feet long. They are fairly easy to care for. He is going to want about a 20 gallon to 30 gallon tank when they are full grown. You want a water bowl big enough for them to be able to soak in. You want Aspen or bark as a bedding, a hiding spot, and probably a branch so it can help them shed. This guy right now is eating pinkies or fuzzies, but eventually they will get up to eating mice.

The purpose of the trip was to go to villages in the area surrounding Siguatepeque to vaccinate their animals (cattle, horses, dogs, cats, pigs and chickens mostly), and visit schools to present health-related information/skits to entertain the children while providing some education. Thirty-one people came together to form this mission team.

Diving in Honduras can be beautiful with the schools of fish and turtles swimming in the waters near Utila, Honduras. This scuba diving video documents my round the world travels through Central America (RTW stories can be followed on my travel blog: alittleadrift.com). The reef system off the coast of Honduras and stretching up into Belize is the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System and is the second largest reef system in the world (the Great Barrier Reef is the largest). The diversity of coral is striking in the Honduras reefs--scuba diving these reefs guarantee some of the most diverse smatterings of coral I've ever seen. The fish are not as colorful in these waters as they are in the more tropical waters of Thailand and Australia, but instead are intriguingly spiky and rough, or sleek and slender... Some of the fish I saw on my dives through this reef system included turtles, lion fish (which DO NOT belong in Caribbean waters), toad fish, spiny lobster, horseshoe lobster, and a huge range of others floating right by my face! I recommend the diving without a doubt because I saw fish there I hadn't seen anywhere else in the world. I was there at the end of the spotted whale shark season, and though I was REALLY hopeful, these gentle sharks had already migrated onward by April. I went to Honduras last summer on a school trip. These kids are in a kindergarten in a small town outside of copan. These are the poorest of the poor. None of them have running water - if they want food, their parents raise or grow animals and plants. When I was videotaping, I had the lcd screen facing the kids so they could see themselves - some for probably the first time. I have a lot more footage of this trip that I will upload soon.

On my trip to Honduras I had the great fortune to visit the Lizards Farm at Roatan Island, a reserve park for the populous lizards of the island. These cute and sweet animals are totally friendly and like to be touched. After they were persecuting me I found out that they're attracted to the yellow color so they went after my bright yellow flip flops. I enjoyed seeing chickens & lizards sharing food & space peacefully. That's why I LOVE LIZARDS!
