"Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period." Again, my name is Carlos and I am president of Texas Latino Council of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

My name is Federico Arango and I created this video to commemorate Hispanic Heritage month which takes place along 30 days, September through October. The video played on our high school closed circuit television program. This video was meant to be played on the national television program Telemundo but for some reason our television club teacher did not submit it or forgot. It was a shame but at least the students got to see it. The Credits for the video were created specifically for You Tube and the whole narration is in Spanish so as to celebrate Hispanic culture but I included subtitles so as to not alienate or segregate students in the high school who did not speak Spanish. I wanted everyone to understand the video. i completely understand that this video does not cover every aspect of hispanic heritage or culture or afro latin culture or every aspect of traditional Native American roots, because the video was required to be only a certain length for school. i wish i could have included everything but it was impossible. I would like to thank my Father for helping me drive around the city to film, my mother for helping me create a rough draft of the narrative script, Margaret for taking the time to narrate the whole thing and all the businesses and people who let us film them. In Honduras, cultural immersion is just one of many experiences for visitors. The Garifuna (or Garinagu) are descendants of African slaves who intermarried with the Carib Indians when shipwrecked near the island of St. Vincent in 1635. Today, there are many Garifuna communities along Honduras' North Coast and in Bay Islands. The small fishing communities are known for their language, music and dance, recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Visitors to Honduras can arrange visits to one of these communities through a tour operator, most commonly in the Tela Bay area, La Ceiba, Cayos Cochinos and Roatan. A medical mission team from Heritage Church in Westerville, Ohio came to Choluteca, Honduras from June 26-July 4 to serve the people of Honduras. Dr. Mitch Kennedy helped run a medical clinic while many other members scrubbed in for a week of service.

GreenWood is launching a state-of-the-art timber-tracking program in the buffer zone of the Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve of Honduras--a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most pristine forest areas in tropical America. The carefully monitored system of applied bar codes will enable GreenWood and its client, Taylor Guitar Company, to track each of the critical control points in their supply chain of mahogany guitar parts, identifying the origin of the wood and ensuring the integrity of their supply. Owners of a Taylor guitar will be able to identify the actual rainforest location from which the materials in their instrument were derived and confirm that the wood came from a well-managed source. The project puts the forest at the fingertips of guitar aficionados as never before. Guitar owners will be able to conduct a "virtual" tour of the rainforest community that produced the wood in their instrument. Arriving at the harvest site of their tree via Google Earth™, online tourists will download all the technical information they like, as well as photos and profiles of the local loggers who cut the wood, their families and the surrounding flora and fauna, plus music and videos of the harvest process. This Cathedral is found next to Comayagua's central park. The city lies equidistant between Guatemala City and Leon, Nicaragua arranged so by early Spanish Conquistadors for ease of transportation and communication in Central America. Comayagua became a city in 1557 and was the Honduran capital as a province from 1540, early republic days 1821 and until 1880 when Tegucigalpa was declared the capital of Honduras.The city itself is built according to the Old Spanish tradition, a square central park and streets laid out in a square fashion. Old homes and buildings are silent testimony of the cities old heritage.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 2 Commissioner Tony Ortiz and the City of Orlando hosted the 5th annual City of Orlando Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff on Thursday, September 15, to celebrate the influence of Hispanic culture in Orlando. This free event celebrated the commencement of Hispanic Heritage month which runs from September 15 to October 15, 2011. It honors the culture and traditions of US residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The starting date coincides with the anniversary of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua declaring their independence in 1821.

Dentist Brigades in Bosawas 2004, Time: 9:08 MINS For the past two years CFCA has partnered with Kindness in Action to send dentist brigades to visit and assist our project communities in the countries of Guatemala, Peru and Nicaragua. In February 2004, Change for Children partnered with the Centre Humbolt organization in Northern Nicaragua to send a group of dentists to the remote Bosawas Biosphere Reserve. Bosawas is a UN protected world heritage site that runs along the Rio Coco river, which forms the border between Nicaragua and Honduras. This video was filmed by Frank Bessai, a long-time CFCA supporter and volunteer.
