Bosnia & Herzegovina - Beauty & War
Duration : 343 Seconds

This is a video showing the many faces of Bosnia & Herzegovina through images. First, it shows the beautiful scenery, nature and ancient architecture of Bosnia & Herzergovina as a prelude to understanding what a beautiful country and what a cultural hub this is, in the middle of Europe. Next the video gives us a glimpse of the true heroes of the 1992-1995 War in Bosnia & Herzegovina. The people that gave leadership and sacrificed their lives for the unity of the nation and the survival of the Bosniak people in the face of mass exterminations by the Serbian aggressor. Finally, the video shows us saddening and disturbing imagery of the victims of the War - the hundreds and thousands of Bosniak men, women and children who were slaughtered mercilessly at the hands of Serbian soldiers in their quest for an ethnically and religiously pure Greater Serbian superstate; which meant the eradication the Bosniak people and Islam in the Balkans as a whole. Hopefully this video was enlightening to you. God bless.

This project is a result of a competition named „Historic Park of Medieval Bosnia and Herzegovina (Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina), which took place in May 2009. It won the first prize. The intention of this competition was to create a thematic park, having a medieval Bosnian history as a subject. It was left to the competitors to decide how to organize the given site and to choose the approach. Only the set of most important historic artifacts, which had to be presented at place, was given as limiting factor. The chosen site was a green area in the city center, well provided with the pedestrian paths. Our design result was a museum pavilion, with a given name timespace. Author team: FILTER

Much Ado In Mostar
Duration : 171 Seconds

The war torn city of Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina is divided ethnically and religiously right down the middle. Muslims live on the east side, Catholics on the west side. At a glance, Mostar is a vibrant modern and historical town full of vibrant cafes, ringed by Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman architecture. The US lead, Dayton Peace Accord, brought peace to Bosnia in 1995, but is no longer a suitable framework for their government. The residents in the city of Mostar are fearful of another war like the one that pitted neighbor against neighbor in the 90's. Led by a Dartmouth College professor, a mix of kids from both sides of the city, put their differences aside and come together to perform Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. The film follows them from 5 weeks of rehearsal to a tour of the production with performances in Croatia, Montenegro, Republika Srpska and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Ferhadija Mosque Banjaluka Serb nationalists attack May 7, 2001
Duration : 194 Seconds

( www.BosniaFacts.info ) Ferhat-Pasha Mosque (Bosnian: Ferhat-pašina džamija, Turkish: Ferhad Paşa Camii) or more widely known as Ferhadija Mosque was a central building of the city of Banja Luka and one of the most successful achievements of the Ottoman and Islamic architecture of the 16th century Bosnia and Herzegovina. The mosque was built in 1579 in a classical Ottoman style by an unknown architect apprentice of Mimar Sinan. It was commissioned by the Bosnian Sanjak-bey Ferhat-paša Sokolović. The Ferhadija mosque complex also included three small adjacent mausoleums carrying tombs of Ferhat-paša Sokolović, his granddaughter Safi-kaduna and his ensign, a central fountain called Shaderwan, Stone and wrought iron fence with the small fountain on the corner, and an old graveyard in the back. A later addition to the complex was a near-by clock tower Sahat-Kula. Built in a modest scale as it was common for structures of this type in Bosnia and Herzegovina the mosque was 18 meters (59 ft) in width and 14 meters (46 ft) in length while the main dome was 18 meters (59 ft) high. The minaret was 43 m (141 ft) high. Ferhadija was listed as a cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1950 and was subsequently protected by UNESCO until its destruction in 1993. The site and the remains of the mosque today are listed as a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The mosque was demolished by explosives on May 7, 1993 by the Serb militia that also razed to the ground the ...

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina - World War II Italian Archive Tapes (in Italian)
Duration : 498 Seconds

A rare black and white WW II video journal focusing on customs, architecture and ordinary lives of citizens of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Nothing super exciting here (certainly no bombs and helmets), but as it is often the case, the author seems to be a bit struck with the cultural mish-mash on steroids. The background narrative is in Italian which I do not speak (though I was able to get the "Ecco, La Çarşıya - Piazza del Mercato" at 2 min 14 sec), hence no additional descriptions of the narrative.

A Guided Tour of The Ottoman Area of Sarajevo, Bosnia
Duration : 293 Seconds

www.TravelsWithSheila.com "Pigeon Square" holds the lovely old Sebilj water fountain from 1891, the only one remaining in Sarajevo. It resembles a gazebo rather than a water fountain and the "Pigeon" name is self-explanatory. Down all the little side streets radiating off from this square. The former "Leather Street." Still working "Copper Street" with copper bracelets, coffee pots, ewers. A street filled with Sarajevo's version of fast food, lines of restaurants. A person could spend months eating without touching all the restaurant choices. Though the 1551 stone Bursa Bedistan that was once a silk trading bazaar filled with small "knock-off" shops. Into the courtyard of the Gazi-Husrevbey Vakuf Mosque, one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture in the world, built by court architect Sinan. A lot to see...

Bosnia & Herzegovina 2006 Stari Most in Mostar
Duration : 10 Seconds

A young Bosniak diving into Neretva river from Stari Most, the Old Bridge. Stari Most is one of the most spectacular arched bridges I have seen. A masterpiece of Ottoman architecture and building tradition. During the Bosniak-Croat conflict in 1993, on November 9th the bridge was bombarded by Croatian artillery and fell in Neretva river 450 years after its construction. International donors, touched by the bridging symbology of the site for the newly established state of BiH, funded the reconstruction and in 2004 Stari Most returned in its former flare. Today it's an UNESCO World Heritage site.
