I Am Haiti Art Scarves
Duration : 132 Seconds

A week after the earthquake FilmsOnArtists went to Haiti and brought suitcases of canvasses and paint supplies for the children of the Maranatha School and Orphanage in Port-Au-Prince to create their first works of art. The project was the initiative of documentary filmmaker Kevin O'Hanlon who collaborated with Haitian born artist Richard Laurent and a team of volunteers at the orphanage. The children painted what they wanted to occur in their lives - a home for their family, trees, clothes to wear, a car to drive to town in. We exhibited their paintings at our gallery, Rogue Space | Chelsea, New York and rebuilt their school with the proceeds. Now Franca Arts and Fashion Charity and TMS Group have brought the children's art into the fashion world by creating a line of the finest cashmere scarves featuring the children's images which will be launched this holiday season. With their sale we will create a sustainable community with trade schools, health facilities and and agriculture so the children will step into the world they envisioned and expressed in those first images. 100% of the proceeds go to the children. Visit our site: www.IAmHaitiScarves.com The Maranatha School and Orphanage was created by Michael Fedele and is administered by LifeForTheWorld. Film produced by Kevin O'Hanlon, FilmsOnArtists. Music by Richard "Earthman" Laurent.

www.martinbroussalis.com.ar HAITIAN PAINTING AYISEN PENTI PINTURA HAITIANA A video on Felix LaFortune (1933 - Haití ), painter. Audio Excerpt from Yanvalou song (Martin Broussalis). Martín Broussalis: premier tanbou, segon, ogan, xylophone / composition Gabriel Lage: voice Daniel Greco: music collaboration Recorded and edited at WC recording studio. Buenos Aires - Argentina. segundaviola.com.ar COPYRIGHT MARTIN BROUSSALIS 2012 Born 1933 in Pontsonde, Haiti. Lafortune Felix lives in St. Marc where he is a farmer and formally a voodoo priest. Through the wall paintings which he decorated his temple, he came to the attention of Pierre Monosiet, the late curator of the St. Pierre College Museum of Haitian Art. Provided with materials, the artist began painting on masonite in 1972. Felix draws his content from his knowledge of and concern with the supernatural. His self-assured, forceful personality and the power of his vision endow his work with an intensity akin to that of Hector Hyppolite's. Very temperamental by nature, Felix portrays highly active scenes. There is drama and breathless wonder in his dynamic brushwork. His preference for strong color betrays the origin of his pictorial perception: the need and desire to impress the worshipper as well as the loas.

Art & Life: The Spirit of Haiti - an art exhibition
Duration : 103 Seconds

The Art Gallery at Eissey Campus presents "The Spirit Of Haiti," January 5 - February 10th, with an artists reception Tuesday, January 10th, 5:30-8pm. This exhibition will show an exciting cross-section of art done by artists of Haitian decent. In the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake, Haiti continues to rebuild, and its people continue to live another day with the hope of a better life. The family and national ties among the Haitian people, both here and elsewhere in the US are strong and resilient. Through artists we can see this strength of character and love of life. Art and crafts by youth of the Art Creation Foundation For Children in Jacmel, Haiti, will also be on the exhibit. These will include papier mache, paintings, mosaics, and pieces from a special post-earthquake exhibition that links rubble, stories, and paintings. www.PalmBeachState.edu

ハイチのスーパーフラット Art Project: Nazare 2012 "Haitian Superflat || Haiti + Japan"
Duration : 613 Seconds

nazaire.info http www.sicklecellart.com current Art Project Nazare :: 2012 "Haitian Superflat || Haiti + Japan" Haitian Superflat | Haiti + Japan is my new project, a series of paintings I wish to produce this year. My dream is to take my work to the next level and have a very productive year painting and exploring ideas I have had for a long time. My main focus for this series is on the mixing of two cultures Haiti + Japan on canvas. I want to be able to paint 20 to 40 paintings creating a body of work that explores this melting of imagery from two cultures. One that is my heart and soul and another that unknown yet I find intriguing and inspiring. My vision for this project is to continue this theme of "Haitian Superflat" on a large scale, or large canvases and to share videos of the creative process of producing it online. I am not trying to be something that I am not and no I am not an OTAKU! well maybe a little too fascinated by everything Japanese lol. But I want my work to be a bridge without race, color, or nationality. Just human. This will be my most ambitious year as an artist so I have shared my wishlist of art materials on a website sendacanvas.com so that those who wish to support my work can do so without sending money, I don't want money just want to be able to be productive and share my work. They can send me a large canvas or acrylic paint for this new project. I am also exploring other ways to fund my work this year. I have applied for Connecticut ...

Haitian Art : Fine Haitian Art - haitian Art Academy
Duration : 235 Seconds

www.haitianart.be presents Jules Ernest PAUL who says I recognize myself in a discipline; the expressionism, a style in which is interpreted the expression of the face. A thought, the painting which exteriorizes the feelings of the heart; one reads things there silently, without no sentence, no word. It is the value of art there. If not for what a work of art would be used if it does not speak about itself.

MaximsNewsNetwork: HAITIAN ART & CULURE - UN MINUSTAH (UNTV)
Duration : 567 Seconds

MaximsNewsNetwork: 31 May 2010 - UNTV - UN MINUSTAH: Port-au-Prince, Haiti - Haitian art and culture has always been seen as a symbol of hope but the massive earthquake left unseen devastation to the spirit of Haiti's artists. The joyful, vibrant paintings that fetch thousands of dollars in the United States and Europe were the country's greatest source of foreign currency. SOUNDBITE (Creole) Prince Luc, artist, Haiti: "It doesn't come into my head to do something that I see, or something realistic. Most of all, I prefer impressionistic, surreal, a bit naive." "You could hear a noise, but you didn't know where this noise was coming from." "Everybody, instead of staying standing up, threw themselves on the ground. But we didn't know if the ground was gong to open up if we were going to fall inside. We didn't know anything." SOUNDBITE (Creole) Patrick Vilaire, sculptor, Haiti: "This museum houses all the artistic legacy of the grand period of Haitian painting." "This collection here is where you find all the works of the Masters of Haitian painting, the great artistic movement that was born in 1945. I came here today, after the earthquake, to try and save the collection, because it's in danger!" "It's a painting by a Haitian artist who lives in France." SOUNDBITE (English) Teeluck Bhuwanee, UNESCO, Haiti: "Economically, culture can save this country because it has an enormous amount of talent in all ways." "If this country can rebuild itself it's going to do it on its ...

Haitian Art Exhibit Sponsored by the Albert Schweitzer Institute
Duration : 140 Seconds

Haitian Art Exhibit Joyous Art; Symbol of the Resilience and Strength of the Haitian People. Hopital Albert Schweitzer in rural Deschapelles, Haiti, is very grateful to the Albert Schweitzer Institute and Quinnipiac University for hosting this Haitian Art Exhibit and bringing awareness of the work of this hospital to the school, its staff and the neighbors. These Haitian paintings were all painted by artists who live in the area surrounding HOpital Albert Schweitzer. In general, the paintings are done in the "naïf" style, depicting rural life in Haiti. Elinord DuBreill is a prolific painter. He also sells paintings for other artists. His dream is to finish his building on the main road close to HOpital Albert Schweitzer so he can provide a locale for artists to sell their art. At this point, he carries his collection of paintings rolled up, in a soft guitar case. He is the recipient of a small business loan which is helping him to complete the roof of his building which will serve as a gallery. Ismael Saincilus was a very well known artist from Petite Riviere, across the Artibonite River from the hospital. After looking at an art book which Mrs. Mellon, co-founder of the hospital, loaned to him, he became inspired by the Byzantine paintings with mosaic backgrounds. Many artists who studied under him incorporated his style into their works. Albert Toussaint is one example. One painting in the collection has Ismael Saincilus' name on it. People have been known to do this ...

Haitian Painters Thrive on a History of Hardship
Duration : 106 Seconds

In Haiti, decades of political unrest and abject poverty produce a lively creative scene for painters there. STORY: Haiti a nation long known for unrest, deadly disasters and immense poverty. But from this life of hardship a group of artists is capturing the story of Haiti on canvas. From humble beginnings artists from the Haitian slums, like Michael Dumain, are winning fame and some fortune for their art. [Michael Dumain, Artist]: "Quite frankly, I am most comfortable when I am painting, that is when I feel truly inspired, when I am painting, the act of painting can lift me up of my sadness provides me with joy and hope. One day, I would like to get more than money from my painting but to give the world a glimpse of a worthy Haitian, to use painting as a tool to show the world the positive side of Haitians." Henry Edward, an art critic, says Haiti's naive style has developed into one of the most diverse in the Caribbean. [Henry David, Haitian Art Critic]: "Painting, the art, it is you know the last value we have here in Haiti, we almost lost all of our values over all the trouble here, so there is only one thing that stayed with Haitian people, it is art and it is with art that it could happen, you know to make a way, so they could come out of the trouble they are in, you know, according to me they have to give much more value to the Haitian art." In a country where unemployment is high and only expected to rise, painting is also a creative way to make money. These ...
