Lyrics: I wanna be a trillionaire so frickin bad Solve all of the problems the world has From earthquakes that strike the earth to hurricanes Chile, Haiti, and our New Orleans Oh every time I watch tv I see some calamity, yeaaah A different country every night oh I swear The world will be repaired for when I'm a trillionaire The millennium started ten years ago And just a year later there was a deathblow It ruined and changed the lives of many And brought us to war with the Iraqi In 2004, there were Madrid bombings School siege in Russia was far from calming So many terrorist attacks got everybody panicking And the time for darning was already ticking If I was a trillionaire, I could help rebuild Those poor countries whose lives were killed So think about it because Oh every time I watch tv I see some calamity, yeaaah A different country every night oh I swear The world will be repaired for when I'm a trillionaire We can't forget about Hurricane Katrina She hit the coast saying asta la vista Other hurricanes followed putting countries in ruins Not only that but the disasters don't loosen Cyclones, Floods, and even a drought So many people died without a doubt Then came the great typhoons in Asia Destroying homeland of Taiwan and Phillipines, uh. Edwidge Danticat Visits Her Roots in Haiti
Duration : 136 Seconds

The prize-winning, young novelist from Haiti and Brooklyn spoke frankly in this interview given in Miami, Florida, in June 2003. Danticat is the first Haitian woman to compose a novel entirely in English, and she is also the first author to bring the Haitian/American experience to American literature. In our conversation she talked about the dictatorship in Haiti, the experience of being separated from her parents for eight years, racism, valuing the self, her sense of mystery, the creative process, writing, her audience, and her dreams, and she ends with a reading from her second novel, "Krik? Krak!." This book, foretells the power of Danticat's latest works, "The Dew Breaker," an intense story of family, dislocation and torturers during the notorious Duvalier regime, and her compelling memoir, "Brother, I'm Dying."

What You Need to Study Haitian Creole Seriously
Duration : 86 Seconds

The Creole Project: a free online resource that teaches Haitian Creole through video tutorials More videos and resources available at thecreoleproject.tumblr.com I'll be posting more as I go along. I started this project because Haitian Creole is not easy to learn without taking an intensive course at one of the programs at FIU, Duke, or UMass. If you can take an intensive course (they run about two months long in the summer), I recommend Professor Jacques Pierre at Duke--he taught me everything I know. Please message me if you would like to volunteer to help make the video tutorials. I'd love to have native speakers record content for the videos. I don't mind putting them together in video format and writing the lessons! Me: I'm a grad student working toward a PhD. I study activist writers who resist dictatorship through literature in Haiti, and Latin America. I have taught French language courses at the undergraduate level, and I'm applying that experience to Creole. My goal is that you will be able to learn basic Creole more easily. My hope is that you will fall in love with the language, the literature, and the culture as I have. Please message me if you have any suggestions for how my tutorials could be more helpful.
