| | Haiti's Lost Music on PBS Duration : 402 Seconds Green Family Foundation hosted Anna Lomax Wood, daughter of legendary ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax and her team along with PBS on a culture-repatriation mission: To bring Haitians a renewed sense of their musical legacy. Elements of this effort are captured in "Haiti's Lost Music," a segment aired in August 2010 on PBS' Need to Know news magazine. Produced by Anthony Lappe and Kimberly Green, President of the Green Family, the piece focuses on the city of Leogane, site of many of Alan Lomax's most rare film and music recordings from more than 70 years ago. The crew filmed on the same sites Lomax filmed on his journey in the 1930s. Anna Lomax Wood and the GFF crew played Alan Lomax's music and film for the people of Leogane, who watched and heard their ancestors sing and perform dances that are still relevant to their culture today as it was 70 years ago. Their faces tell stories. Some had not heard the music since their childhood. Most sang along, remembering lyrics, and realize that the Haitian cultural heart has remained constant event though their surroundings have changed. The influence of Haitian music on folk and blues is apparent. Anna Lomax Wood and GFF plan to have these recordings incorporated into school curriculum, and believe that musicians and scholars will rediscover and study this material. The Green Family Foundation aims to increase the understanding and appreciation for Haiti's cultural contributions to the world. Film and music from Alan Lomax In Haiti ...
