In 2011, the people at BAR Architects, an architecture firm located in San Francisco, felt called to help the people of Haiti in rebuilding after the earthquake. To make this desire to help a reality, they partnered closely with Architecture for Humanity and pooled their vacation time in order to send 9 architects to Haiti. In this Design Open Mic session, four of the architects on this project share their experience in Haiti, the design for Haiti Partner's Children's Academy, and construction methods leveraging local talent and material.

In a follow up video to the Design Open Mic session, BAR Architects and Architecture for Humanity have an open dialog regarding the project in which they partnered to design and build a school in Haiti. The client's (John Engle, Co-Director of Haiti Partners) brother, Jesse Engle, was at the session and expressed gratitude to BAR and AfH: "As the school takes shape, it will impact lots of lives in a very positive way. NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate visited a school in the plateau of Haiti that was being renovated by Architecture for Humanity for Save the Children. The principle told us about programs they have to educate the community about protecting their children from cholera. They haven't had a single case of cholera in their school.

The earthquake took many things away from Diandine Emile, but it did not take away her dream for a better future. This short documentary profiles Diandine: a High School Senior in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, as she and her classmates participate in Students Rebuild, a series of videoconferences connecting students in Haiti with their peers in the US and Canada. The goal of the conferences: to learn about each others cultures and motivate fundraisers to help rebuild Haitian schools. Through Diandine's experience, viewers will see how these connections and the actions they inspired, are impacting the lives of all of the students involved in the project.

UK firm John McAslan + Partners led the team that restored Port-au-Prince's historic Iron Market. Enclosing an eclectic bazaar, the structure, built in France and originally intended to become a train station in Cairo before being erected in Haiti in 1891, suffered severe damage during the 2010 earthquake.

The Nouveau Kiskeya Project will be Haiti''s first master planned, regional development community. It will offer a wide breadth of lifestyle choices. Besides the real estate products, the NK Master Plan calls for one or more of the following: - Public Marina (200 to 300 slips); - Resort Hotels; - Golf Courses; - Tennis Center/Beach Club; - Equestrian Center; - Soccer AND Outdoor Sports. - Town Center; - Cruise Ship Terminal. The real estate component will consist of seven product types to appeal to a variety of market segments. They range from smaller single family homes (eg attainable at 800 SF), up to the larger beach front and estate homes (eg 3-3500 SF) Four multifamily product types are proposed.
