Michèle Bennett is the ex-wife of former President for Life of Haiti, Jean-Claude (Baby Doc) Duvalier. From 1980 to 1986 she was the First Lady of Haiti. She fled to exile in France with her deposed husband aboard a US Air Force plane and has remained there since. She was divorced from Duvalier in 1990. The authorities found Mrs. Duvalier trying to flush a notebook down the toilet. It logged astronomical spending -- US$168780 for clothes at Givenchy, US$270200 for jewellery at Boucheron, US$9752 for two children's horse saddles at Hermès, US$68500 for a clock, US$13000 for a week's stay at a Paris hotel. In 2010 she flew to Haiti with a search-and-rescue team to look for her brother Rudy Bennett in the rubble of the Montana Hotel, where he had gone to fix an espresso machine leased from his food company. Her brother's death got little notice in Haiti.[
