Kollum - they are intricate geometrical pattern drawn outside the main door or gate of homes in Southern India. In other parts of India they use different phrases to describe these colorful patterns drawn either with coarse rice powder, lime stone or a mix of rice powder spiked with colors. Meet the "kolum maavu guy," from Chenna (Madras), who goes from door-to-door selling kolum powder. Sightings of "kolum maavu guy" are turning out to be rare ones given the decline in drawing kolum on a daily basis. Increasingly kolums are drawn on special events like Pongal and Diwali.

Er bestaan vier verschillende soorten slingerapen, de roodgezicht slingeraap is er één van. Slingerapen leven in Suriname en Frans Guyana. De lokale naam voor de slingeraap is Kwatta of bosduivel. Zoals alle slingerapen heeft de roodgezicht slingeraap een lange staart die als vijfde ledemaat dienstdoet. Slingerapen eten bijna 200 soorten vruchten. Op zoek naar bomen met rijpe vruchten, splitst een grote groep slingerapen zich op in subgroepjes. Die houden contact met elkaar door te roepen. Als het territorium verdedigd moet worden komen ze weer bij elkaar, want samen staan ze sterk. Bij onraad schudden ze wild aan de boom en regenen de dode takken omlaag. Slingerapen verspreiden de zaden van tal van bomen. Zo helpen ze dus mee om hun eigen regenwoud in stand te houden. The red-faced black spider monkey has a prehensile tail which it uses for grasping when feeding and when moving through the forest. The black spider monkey is found in various countries in South America. It is a frugivorous species, which tends to favor ripe fruits. They also eat leaves. The BBC 2 programme Extreme Dreams, in which travel presenter and adventurer Ben Fogle gives five members of the public the chance to realise their dreams, trekked through Helambu to the lakes of Panch Pokhari in 2007. As it turned out, the trek lived up to its name as the contestants struggled with the harsh terrain, long days and altitude. This is a clip of the moment when one of contestants required urgent evacuation after collapsing from exhaustion.
