| | T Shares: A Guyanese Queh Queh Experience Duration : 310 Seconds **EXPAND FOR MORE INFO** Guyanese Queh Queh Experience Hey guys! Some of you may not know this but I am Guyanese both by birth and by heritage. One of the cultural traditions that my family and I really enjoy is something called a Queh Queh. A Queh Queh is a Guyanese version of a rehearsal dinner and bridal party all rolled into one. There's lots of food, family, music, and dancing along with traditional folk songs involving drums and...some interesting lyrics lol. It's a lot of fun and really keeps our heritage alive. Hope you ALL enjoy this video! Feel Free to Like, Comment, and SUBSCRIBE! :-) You can also check out my blog, "To AT" - www.tonashaj.wordpress.com Tags :Queh Queh, Guyana, Guyanese, Wedding, party, bride, culture, heritage

| | Florence Kersting, Painting Guyana Duration : 1742 Seconds Florence Kersting was born in British Guiana, now known as the Republic of Guyana, of East Indian heritage. When she was seven years old, she discovered her artistic abilities, but this was during her battle with malaria, which lasted for several years. In her primary school days, she attended St. Winifred Roman Catholic School and one of her teachers was Ms. Panzy Burrowes, who showed Florence's art work to her father. Florence would later learn that her teacher's dad was the famous ER Burrowes, the "Father of the Art Movement" in British Guiana. Mr. Burrowes encouraged her to pursue her art of which he said was a "gift". Needless to say she did not follow her art, but instead she got married and at the age of 25 years old she was a mother of five children. Her artistic abilities were unknown to her husband and children at that time. In 1969, Florence and her husband Rene went to New York on vacation. There, they both visited several art museums. She was so inspired at what she had seen that when they returned to Guyana, she was motivated to have a "One Woman" Art Exhibition (much to her husband's dismay who had no idea as to the extent of her abilities). Her goal is to immortalize Guyana and to remember some of the good times we all had in the early years. She would like also to remember the characters we knew as children eg Ice Cart Man, Badaam Lacha!! Walker the British, Telegraph Man, to name a few. This will be done to update the children who were born here in the ... Tags :Florence Kersting, Guyana, Art, Painting, East Indian, Artist Drawing
| | I Live Still (highlights) Duration : 599 Seconds I LIVE STILL An Afro Contemporary Dance Testament Triumph Resilient Struggle of the Human Spirit Length of Full is Piece 30mins Directed by Marion Landers Choreography by Marion Landers and Robert Halley *this video is from the 2011 BC BUDS SPRING ARTS FESTIVAL performed at The Firehall Arts Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Marion Landers and Robert Halley draw upon their respective South African and Guyanese heritage and their professional experience with African and Contemporary dance to explore new territory together. They are interested in creating works that speak to the relevance of African heritage within history and current affairs of artistic and cultural traditions. Works that are meaningful of this great diverse nation, Canada, and for the care and respect we need to show the African continent in these trying times. In I Live Still, Landers and Halley explore an Afro-Contemporary movement vocabulary, creating motifs of everyday life and relationships, including the regal and sensual body of the African woman and the traditional boundaries of the compound. These boundaries, or markers of traditional African life, are antagonized and frayed by an unexpected invader and the horrors of war. Dance sequences highlight strength, perseverance, struggle and the delicate balance of human relationships, in which the love of brother and sister, husband and wife can brutally overlap with that of soldier and victim. I Live Still is dedicated to the people of the ... Tags :Marion, Landers, Robert, Halley, Dance, Contemporary, Theatre, African, Afro, Live, Life, Still, Stillness, Guyanese, Guyana, South, Africa

| | Red Ants - Boston Crap ft. Predaking (Phobos Deimos - 2005) Duration : 196 Seconds Red Ants was originally conceived on Torontos east side in the summer of 2002 by Modulok and Predaking, two emcees of Guyanese heritage who had been collaborating since their high school days as part of the 90s rap group Symbiots (alongside Astral Black) and as two of the brains behind the legendary underground hip-hop magazine Twisted Linguistiks. Modulok had just returned from some inspirational gigs in the Czech Republic, Predaking had just completed an inspirational prison sentence. Both were hungry to buckle down and churn out some heavy shit. Shopping for beats ended once they discovered the enigmatic Vincent Price, who became a permanent member of the group and whose trademark menacing, cinematic production shaped the rugged war chariot style Red Ants have become notorious for. When Predaking was incarcerated in 2004 with no hope of release in the near future, Modulok and Vincent Price were forced to abandon their existing material and began work on new tracks with Modulok as the sole emcee. Early Red Ants classics like Red Menace, Step Into My Office, Murderous, All That Is Solid, and Mechanical Gorilla Hitler meets Joey Stalin Halloween Leprechaun were sadly never recorded and only survive in the memories of those lucky enough to catch those early, energetic live shows. Predaking may be released as early as 2010, and yall definitely havent heard the last of him. Red Ants 2005 debut Phobos Deimos burnt up Canadian college radio charts, received critical acclaim ... | | "Guyana Jungle Ministry" - Amerindian Indians! [Watch in 480p] Duration : 328 Seconds .Had to replace music with Audoi Swap due to copyright issues !David's (aflame4God) ministry in Wakapoa, Guyana, South America. There's something special about "Charity", which is a small port town in Guyana. It takes a long time to get there. It is a strategic place! Here the trappings of town life end. Roads, shops, cars, plumbing, and electricity all end in this very small town. From there you must travel by boat or canoe on the Pomeroon, Wakapoa, or Moruca Rivers. As you travel along these rivers, you'll see many small wooden houses with palm leaf roofs. They call them "trash roofs". Instead of cars, you will see a canoe parked on the edge of the river bank. These are the Amerindian villages, with names such as Kabakaburi, Carawab, Siriki, Akawini, Kamwatta, etc. These rivers are a water highway, with many old canoes going up and down the river. Some of the canoers are very old, weather beaten Arawaks or Carib Indians. Others will be very small children in worn torn clothes paddling away. It is a wonderful sight! They are simple, quiet, strong, and friendly people. Everyday is a struggle to survive. From the town noise to the jungle sounds you will hear the call of the beautiful Toucan; the chatter of the Amazon Green Parrotts (One day my son and I saw fifty of them in three coconut trees), the croaking of the bull frogs at night, and large birds making strange noises at 5:30 AM (You don't need an alarm clock!). I've been honored to minister God's Word in many of ... | | "Worship in the Jungles!" Part 1-Kamwatta, Guyana. Duration : 284 Seconds PRODUCED BY AFLAME4GOD CHANNEL.Live video footage of Warrow Indians worshipping the Lord. This is sincere, from the heart adoration of our awesome God! This is in Kamwatta, Guyana, a very remote area in the interior. I was very honored to minister God's Word to them. The pastor is a man of God and we try to support him financially as the Lord provides.PLEASE READ THIS LETTER FROM PASTOR RON WRITTEN TO MY YOU TUBE FRIENDS. "I am pastor Ronald, a pastor of two churches in a remote area in Guyana. Moruca is a Amerindian reservation with a population of 7000. In many aspects, life in Moruca is very difficult. In my home village of Kamwatta we have 602 people. Only 22 people are permanent workers with the government. All others try to survive with farming, hunting, and fishing. The economy here is very bad and work pay remains the same while the cost of goods have increased tremendously and the introduction of the VAT Tax attached to costs makes the poor suffer worse than ever. Basically our monthly earnings make it just for necessary food, nothing left for other expenses. Lack of medical care for complicated cases is difficult such as ultrasound, Xray, eye examination, and surgeries, have to be done in the city which is very far from our village. All travel is done by boat or canoe. This is many times impossible because traveling costs by a moter boat are very high. Doctor fees, prescription medications, meals, and accomodations amounts to a large sum of money. Due to bad ... | | The National Anthem of Guyana - Georgetown Chamber Chorus Duration : 145 Seconds The Georgetown Chamber Chorus performs all four stanzas of the National Anthem of Guyana according to the original score of RCG Potter and lyrics of AL Luker, at the concert "Teach The World A Song" held on December 11, 2011 at the Saint George's Cathedral. Event produced by the Georgetown Chamber Chorus. Filmed by Noel Harlequin/Comvitech. Audio engineering by CP Audio. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The National Anthem of Guyana Dear land of Guyana, of rivers and plains, Made rich by the sunshine, and lush by the rains. Set gem-like and fair, between mountains and sea, Your children salute you, dear land of the free. Green land of Guyana, our heroes of yore, Both bondsmen and free, laid their bones on your shore. This soil so they hallowed, and from them are we, All sons of one Mother, Guyana the free. Great land of Guyana, diverse through our strains, We're born of their sacrifice, heirs of their pains, And ours is the glory their eyes did not see, One land of six peoples, united and free. Dear land of Guyana, to you will we give, Our homage, our service, each day that we live; God guard you, great Mother, and make us to be More worthy our heritage, land of the free. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Visit the Georgetown Chamber Chorus at: www.facebook.com Tags :Guyana, Guyana Anthem
