This video was made in Luxor, Egypt during the International Thebes Cultural Festival. We are at the bank of River Nile and Zenabou Diallo from Guinea presents a peom on the richness of the longest river in the world. The Nile River Valley has played a unique role in Human history because of its special ecology, featuring the annual overflow of rich soil from the Great Lakes regions of Central Africa. The banks of the Nile have been able to support intensive agricultural development producing food surpluses and the concentration of populations migrating from parts of Africa and Asia laid the foundation of Nile Valley Civilization. This special combination of African peoples, the Sun, the fertile land and the Nile River have blended together to produce the greatest civilization of the Ancient World. Unfortunately, the enormous impact of the High Culture of the Nile Valley on Africa, Asia, and Europe has not been fully appreciated. The latest scientific discoveries have helped to reveal the significance of the value systems, the traditions and institutions that have been produced in the Nile Valley and spread to various parts of Africa and the world. Cameroon Link represented the Cameroon Writers Association during the Thebes International Cultural Conference in Luxor,Egypt. CAMERA: Samsung H200 (watch in HD) I had alll this footage taken on a very cold and beautiful day in London nearing the Christmas period. Heres a virtual movie of the World War Two, Soldier poet Alun Lewis reading his exquisite melancholic poem"Goodbye" which he wrote for his wife Gweno in 1942. Alun Lewis (1 July 1915 - 5 March 1944), was a poet of the Anglo-Welsh school,[1] and is regarded by many as one of Britain's finest Second World War poets. Born and brought up near Aberdare in South Wales, the son of teachers, Lewis read history at Aberystwyth and Manchester. Early in 1940, after a brief period teaching and despite his pacifist inclination, he enlisted in the Royal Engineers. In the following year he joined the South Wales Borderers and travelled to the war in India. Becoming a soldier had a stimulating effect on Lewis's writing: Raiders' Dawn, a collection of forty-seven poems, appeared in 1942 and early in 1943, The Last Inspection, a book of short stories, was published, both to considerable critical acclaim. In March 1944, Lewis died in an accident on active service in Burma. His second volume of poems, Ha! Ha! Among the Trumpets, was published in 1945 and his Indian short stories, together with some letters, In The Green Tree (1948). He joined the army in 1940 although he was a pacifist. In 1942 he was sent to India with the South Wales Borderers. He died in Burma, in the course of the Second World War campaign against the Japanese. He was found shot in the head, after shaving and washing, near the officers' latrines, with his revolver in his hand. He died from the wound six hours later ...
