I prepared this movie for my 5th grade daughter's elective class on birds by compiling pictures after an alternative spring break to Guatemala, which included visiting the ancient Mayan city of Tikal. The movie features the sounds of birds in Tikal along with pictures of Tikal, birds and other animals and insects in Tikal and the surrounding Peten region.

Animal Rights March in Guatemala City with Mayan Families 29-April-2012. This March and Rally were hurt by the local goverments refusal to hook up the electricity for the event. So they had no power for all of the Bands, Dancers Music, Public Address system for the honored speakers etc. It was still a fun time and it got local news coverage. Mayan Families was there!

Veterinarians without Borders / Veterinaires sans Frontieres Project: Canine Population Control & Disease Prevention Location: Todos Santos, Guatemala The video was taken by VWV/VSF showing the conditions that the dogs are living in in Todos Santos. From the video it can be seen that dogs are living under poor conditions, living with injuries, abandoned, found dead on the streets and free roaming. VWB/VSF and Todos were able to work together to improve the health and well being of both people and animals. In Todos Santos, a remote village in the Cuchamatán Mountains of Guatemala, VWB/VSF is working with local partners to develop a sustainable and culturally-appropriate canine population control and rabies prevention program. Dogs are the primary reservoir of rabies in the community and many people live in daily fear of these free-roaming animals. Previous population control programs, like mass dog extermination campaigns, have proved unsuccessful and community members are eager to develop a more humane and sustainable solution. The solution was rolled out in two phases. The first phase began in January of 2009 where a team of eight Canadian veterinarians and animal health technicians were sent to Todos Santos, Guatemala gained insights into the situation and sterilized 50% of owned male dogs. Phase two began in November of 2009, with a second team going to examine, vaccinate and sterilize the remaining dog population. Female dogs will also be sterilized during this phase ...

These dogs have been taken in to a non-profit no-kill shelter. They are typical of the street dogs in Guatemala that face many perils and hardships. Do what you can by visiting www.animalaware.org Please help these incredible animals who still love and trust humans despite many bad encounters. We visited them and donated to the shelter, called 'Hound Heights'. There are over 170 dogs and 70 cats that find refuge here and help is always appreciated!
