In 1983 the United States invaded the island of Grenada and Overthrew the communist government in favor of a pro-Western one in a span of less than two months. Problems between the US and the Caribbean nation began in 1979 (while the Cold War was still in effect) when a bloodless coup placed the pro-Marxist Maurice Bishop as the Prime Minister, which led to strengthened ties between Grenada and communist nations like Cuba and the Soviet Union. Bishop was eventually murdered in October of 1983 during a power struggle with hard-liners in his own movement, creating a breakdown in civil order that threatened the lives of American medical students who were living on the island. In response, and at the request of allied Caribbean nations, the US launched "Operation Urgent Fury," sending the Marines to the north of the island and Army Rangers to the south. During the fighting, the US suffered from lack of sufficient intelligence data, which made it difficult to find the medical students who needed to be rescued. The Grenadian Army and its Cuban allies also offered greater resistance than the Americans expected. Despite the difficulties, the Americans were able to take the island by mid-December. An Interim Advisory Council was established and it governed Grenada until December 1984, when Herbert A. Blaize, the head of the New National Party, was made Prime Minister through parliamentary elections.

Provided by the kindness of Bobby Simpson I wasn't sure I was going to add this excusion to our list, for the simple reason that the 1983 US invasion actually resulted in a better outcome for the Grenadian people. We got the people who got their own dictator. We found the Cubans, we beat 'em, case closed. On the other hand...we are talking about a nation that is the definition of 'postage stamp country'. We pit the power of the United States Marines, 7.000 men strong, oh and some 300 other Caribbean nationals, against an island nine times smaller than Rhode Island--that is only slightly smaller than Philadelphia? Over a flippin' airfield? Well, at least there was no chance of them commies slipping weapons overland...

Before the Iraq war there was Grenada, 27 years ago the United States sent 7000 troops to invade the tiny country. The US media hyped up the invasion and made it appear necessary that the US invade to get rid of Cuban occupiers. Author Glen Ford says corporate media continues to prove how it can better spread war propaganda.

Post your comments to the following forum www.partygrenada.com According to the driver and other witnesses the wheel lock was placed within the time he took the luggage off his van to carry it to the check-in counter (note I said according to the driver and witnesses). Evidently as you will see in the video, the gentleman decided to do the unthinkable and remove the lock by cutting it off himself in the presence of Airport Security, two Police Officers and a large number of curious onlookers.. Up to the time of posting this video I was not able to confirm whether or not the driver was charged for damage to Airport property. This incident took place at MBIA, July 20th, 2011

I didn't even notice that one of the main protagonist died(that's Call of Duty for ya). Seems an enemy snuck into our platoon and killed Sullivan so now were under the directive of Pvt. Roebuck until further notice... Our next objective is travel thru the jungle to attack an enemy anti air field that is knocking friendly planes out of the sky

27 years ago today, 7000 US troops invaded a tiny island nation of 95000 under the guise of fighting an imminent communist threat. The reality was a brutal invasion and a high human cost because of the US's use of overwhelming force against largely unarmed civilians. But in many ways, the invasion of Grenada was a litmus test for post-Vietnam War interventions and imperialism—a legacy that lives on today in the Iraq War.
