The CD features a mix of new and traditional Caribbean folk songs and contemporary music done by the group that includes the CD's title song "Quake Music" written by songwriter and singer Leon Antoine. With the premiere of this CD, a group spokesperson says, "QUAKE USA Cultural Organization has taken the next step in continuing its mission by recording some of our best music". The CD's launch was the highlight of QUAKE USA Cultural Organization's recent concert held in Brooklyn, NY. The group performed songs from the new CD together with a range of melodic and vivacious musical selections, drama, dance and poetry from its extensive and versatile repertoire. The concert left the audience in awe and craving for more. Many patrons later exclaimed, "I just couldn't wait to get home to play the CD"; "I just felt a burst of nostalgia". "Talented, handsome, vastly underrated, actor Todd Crespi created a memorable character with paraplegic Dennis Pomeroy in Bill Bixby's TV series "The Magician" (1973-1974) Crepi's talent rested not so much in his obvious good looks as in the deep commitment to his role and an inherent self-confidence in his acting ability which afforded him the kind of moment-to-moment truth few actors are lucky enough to achieve. Never having to resort to over-acting to steal a scene, Crespi's subtle intensity made the down-to-earth Dennis Pomeroy shine with a palette of colors which ranged from overt congeniality to downright vulnerability. Unfortunately, Todd Crespi was never given enough screen time and his character was omitted from several episodes. In the second part of the series they wrote him off altogether. The writers' strike of the time meant that no one behind a typewriter knew what to do with "the affable Magician friend in the wheelchair". Which is really too bad. Never feeling downtrodden because of his predicament, nor arrogant in spite of his impeccable physique, Dennis Pomeroy was the kind of guy who made the average Joe feel like he would be welcomed by him with a kind smile and a warm handshake. Joseph Mathew grew up in Trivandrum in the 70s, when Mumbai or Bombay as he likes to refer to the city, was a mythical dream. In his first narrative feature Bombay Summer, Mathew, pays tribute to Bombay of an earlier era through his three protagonists, who capture its energy and youth culture in transition. This past week, Bombay Summer had two sold out screenings at Indian International Film Festival in Goa. And earlier this month the film swept the Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council film festival awards - winning trophies for best film, best director and best actress (for Tannishtha Chatterjee). Mathew spoke about the film - the idea of Bombay, working with his actors and the music--before he left New York for the Goa festival.
