"Hellenism is a package consisting Ethos, World View, value system" (Vlassis Rassias), language, customs, philosophy, community, and Religion. Hellenism is something that is called "Ethnismos/Ethnicum" (sadly, most people would call it just "Paganism"). "Hellenism is a way of human functioning at the collective and personal level." (Rassias). The Hellenic Religion (Hellenismos) is only one (!) part of the Hellenic Ethnismos. The Ancient Greek Culture was a product of the Hellenic Ethnos, and the same applies to the Hellenic Religion, therefore the Hellenic Polytheists or the people that generally follow Hellenism, are called since late antiquity and they still call themselves as "Ethnic Hellenes", because, and in contrast to the christian Greeks, they follow the ethnic and genuine hellenic Tradition, the Religion and Worldview created by the Ancient Greeks. The identity of the ethnic Hellenes is culturally, ethnically and religiously. Most people in Greece know the Greek Polytheists as Dodekatheists and Ethnikoi. Monasteries of Meteora Greece were built by hermit Monks hundreds of years ago. These spectacular religious sites are built atop thousand foot columns of solid rock. The idea behind these colossal perches was to be closer to God and further away from civilization. Each brick for these building were hoisted up by a bucket one at a time with a rope and pulley system. It took many years to build each one. UFO's have been known to frequent the area.

Film and photos from my short visit and stay on Athos. Soundtrack is Tubular Bells mixed with a Greek chant and local church bells from my father's town of birth, Neopolis. Some images have been taken from elsewhere to enhance presentation. Filming is prohibited on Athos without special permission, as is sound recording. Nor was I greatly inclined to take many photos while there, it not being a tourist destination, but a place of spiritual and religious repose, reflection, practice and study.

Professor Peter Harrison - The Cosmos and the Religious Quest, recorded 15 February 2011. In antiquity and for much of the Middle Ages the formal study of nature - natural philosophy - was, as the name implies, part of the discipline of philosophy. Philosophy itself, from its inception in ancient Greece, had been understood as a form of spiritual exercises. As a consequence, a primary goal of what we call science was, in this earlier period, moral and spiritual formation. These conceptions were to influence the identity of Western Christianity, which came to understand itself as 'the true philosophy'. The study of nature in the Middle Ages was thus an important element of the religious life.

The very first Clash of the Gods is the battle between the Olympians and the Titans as Zeus challenges his father for control of the universe. Some experts believe that this pivotal battle may represent an actual real world event -- one of the greatest natural disasters to befall the Earth. In the ancient Greek religion, Zeus was the "Father of Gods and men" who ruled the Olympians of Mount Olympus as a father ruled the family. He was the god of sky and thunder in Greek mythology. His Roman counterpart is Jupiter , Hindu counterpart is Indra and Etruscan counterpart is Tinia. Zeus was the child of Cronus and Rhea, and the youngest of his siblings. In most traditions he was married to Hera, although, at the oracle of Dodona, his consort was Dione: according to the Iliad, he is the father of Aphrodite by Dione. He is known for his erotic escapades. These resulted in many godly and heroic offspring, including Athena, Apollo and Artemis, Hermes, Persephone (by Demeter), Dionysus, Perseus, Heracles, Helen of Troy, Minos, and the Muses (by Mnemosyne); by Hera, he is usually said to have fathered Ares, Hebe and Hephaestus.
