Since December 1994, when war broke out between the Russian-backed central government in Grozny and a determined group of Chechen resistance fighters, Pankisi has witnessed an influx of refugees from Chechnya. Though not recognized or officially monitored by international agencies, Pankisi has become a refuge from state-sponsored terror for thousands of people who, ironically, are accused by Moscow of waging terror at home. Chechens have a reputation for rugged individualism, even among the peoples of the Caucasus who by any standards are accustomed to rugged conditions and nurture a fierce sense of national pride and independence in light the imperialist tendencies of surrounding nations. Georgia will send troops in Afghanistan to help its ally USA in fighting against terrorism. The US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Ambassador Richard Holbrooke visited Krtsanisi National Training Center. The US top official accompanied by the US Ambassador to Georgia John R. Bass, President Mikheil Saakashvili, Defence Minister Bacho Akhalaia and Chief of the Joint Staff of GAF Major-General Devi Tchankodadze attended the demonstrative training operation specially conducted for the visitors. Following the training operation, they met with the Georgian military servicemen being intensively prepared for participation in the NATO-led ISAF operation in Afghanistan. Towards the end, the guests had dinner together with the Georgian servicemen. Today I had the honor to take a view of the demonstrative exercise on the ground and to meet with soldiers with whom I had some useful talks. I was given the opportunity as well to see the US fleet instructors being actively involved in the training process. On my arrival in Washington I will report of it to the United States` president, State Secretary and my colleagues, mentioned Richard Holbrooke after the meeting with the soldiers. Abkhazia is accusing neighbouring Georgia of waging a 'terrorist war' against it. It follows reports of a number of explosions in the last two days, which injured several people. President Sergey Bagapsh is blaming the blasts on special forces taking orders from Tbilisi.

Badri Jioshvili, an officer of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs died, and 6 policemen were wounded in the explosion that occurred early this morning in Dmani village, Kareli district of Georgias Shida Kartli region. The wounded were transferred to the Gori Military Hospital for immediate operation and treatment. The explosion occurred when the Georgian law enforcers were patrolling about the territory, which, according to the preliminary information, was mined. Representatives of the Kareli Police Department, who arrived on site of the incident, were opened fire from the occupied territory (Georgian-South Ossetian conflict zone). Head of the Avnevi police was wounded in the gunfire. Observers of the European Union are now expected at site to investigate the incident. The de facto South Ossetian authorities have aready reacted on the incident and assessed it as just another provocation plotted by the Georgian side.

President opens new office of Interior Ministry 31.03.09 16:12 Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili opened the new office of the Interior Ministry in Samgori district, Tbilisi, today and spoke about the successful transformation of the state law-enforcement structure. President said that the Georgian society was no entirely free of `criminal thinking` and that if the government could be proud of reforming any sphere in the country this was the police. `We all remember the times when the country was controlled by criminals but crime bosses no longer have a desire to stay in Georgia. They are either in prisons or in Russia. We may say that our main export to Russia is not wine but the crime bosses, who are now controlling many spheres there today, ` Saakashvili said and added that even in Europe there are countries where the index of crime is 7-8 times higher than in Georgia. President said Georgian people were free of criminal Romanism and the icons of young boys are no longer the criminal authorities. `Just recollect the rime when criminal authorities used to meet the ministers in the street and give instructions how to destroy the country. Today these bosses have to meet secretly in other countries,` Saakashvili said. President also spoke about the projects, which the government conducts in various regions. `The government will finally reach the de-occupation of the country and after this Georgia will become a real European state,` Saakashvili concluded

President comments on terror gang detention 07.12.10 President Saakashvili has hailed the special counter-terrorism operation, which resulted in the identification and detention of an organized crime gang suspected of perpetrating series of terror attacks in Georgia. President thanked Georgian law enforcers for successful work. `Georgian police have arrested a group of people suspected of committing very dangerous crimes. All signs, which our law enforcers have to follow, indicate that these people were controlled from the occupied territories of Georgia. We can say that we managed to evade very serious threats of terror attacks, which were planned and for which these people had taken instructions and explosives,` president said.

A remote controlled bomb exploded on the bridge in the village of Phkhvenisi, Gori district, as the vehicle of the police special unit drove on it. The head of the regional police department, Vladimer Jugheli says the explosive device was installed by the separatist saboteurs. Luckily, no one has been injured or killed in the explosion.

Historic Facts: In 1918 the fifth generation of Armenians from Erzurum, Turkey escaped the genocide and were rescued by Russian General Paskevitch who brought them to Georgia where they found refuge in Javakheti, at the time the majority of the population was Georgian, Greek and some Turks with a minority number of Armenians, ever since these Armenians from Erzurum came, they have become majority and claim it's their land. However, historic books even in Armenian claim that Javakheti was part of the Kingdom of Georgia for over 500 years and these Armenians who came in 1918 have no rights to try and steal it from us after we helped them and gave them a place to stay to escape from the Ottoman Turks. Georgians are Native to the Caucasus and one of the oldest races and people of the world, therefore, Javakheti belongs to Georgia, not Armenia. You can buy many books at your local book store or library on the History of Javakheti and you yourself can read those Historic books that specifically mention that the Indigenous people of Javakheti (Part of the Meskheti region) were the two Georgian tribes of the Meskhi (Moschi) and Mosinik people.
