If you live in Atlanta, you might have already come across Corey Barksdale's paintings in art festivals, galleries, and more recently on some of the walls of the city. This bright African American artist brings life to his designs with great textured colorful elements and creativity. His work reflects his many sources of inspiration, with a focus on music and dance - Jazz music in particular -, urban city life and the love and strength present within the African-American community. Corey has carried out numerous projects for businesses and individuals throughout Atlanta, and he has participated in art shows all over the United States. Over the last few years Corey has developed his skills as a mural artist. One of the major projects he recently completed was a 30 feet mural painting for the Beltline, Atlanta's ambitious urban redevelopment project. Rob Brawner, the Atlanta Beltline program director was thrilled with the result, stating that: "Corey was able to bring the Atlanta BeltLine alive through his colorful interpretation of the project." Another much acclaimed mural project he completed this summer was a vast wall painting for the Ben Hill Recreation Center in south Atlanta, as part of the Paint Big project, an initiative by Wonderroot, Living Walls, Dorian McDuffie and the City of Atlanta Office of Recreation. The First Lady of Georgia, HE the Georgian Ambassador to the UK, and Katie Melua were among many distinguished supporters to attend a dinner at The Courtauld Gallery in November to celebrate a unique collaboration. The Courtauld is planning its first ever conservation project in Georgia, in partnership with the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia and the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. Starting in 2012, this project will be undertaken on wall paintings at the famous rock-cut monastery of Vardzia in southern Georgia. Dating from 1184-86, the paintings feature a wide range of subjects including an iconic image of Queen Tamar, and are of an extraordinary technical sophistication. "Georgia O'Keeffe: Abstraction" includes approximately 100 paintings, drawings, and watercolors by O'Keeffe. The exhibition is being organized by Barbara Haskell, Project Director and Curator, Whitney Museum of American Art; Barbara Buhler Lynes, the Emily Fisher Landau Director, Georgia O'Keeffe Museum Research Center, Santa Fe; Elizabeth Hutton Turner, Guest Curator, The Phillips Collection, Washington DC; and Bruce Robertson, consulting curator, Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue with essays by the organizers, excerpts from the recently unsealed Stieglitz-O'Keeffe correspondence, and a chronology of the exhibition history of O'Keeffe's abstractions annotated by her public statements on her art. Georgia Totto O'Keeffe (November 15, 1887 March 6, 1986) was an American artist. Born near Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, O'Keeffe was a major figure in American art from the 1920s. She received widespread recognition for her technical contributions, as well as for challenging the boundaries of modern American artistic style. She is chiefly known for paintings of flowers, rocks, shells, animal bones, and landscapes in which she synthesized abstraction and representation. Her paintings present crisply contoured forms that are replete with subtle tonal transitions of varying colors. She often transformed her subject matter into powerful abstract images. Artist Stacey Brown, currently residing in Atlanta, Georgia offers an eclectic collection of original paintings for the contemporary art lover. Born and reared in Murfreesboro, North Carolina, his artistic journey of discovery began with aspirations for a career in graphic design.
