The World Bank and the Gods of Lending
Duration : 144 Seconds

Former World Bank staff member Steve Berkman describes the corruption and mismanagement he encountered while working for the Bank. Purchase Berkman's new exposé of mismanagement and wasted money at the bank here: www.kpbooks.com "In this blistering exposé, former World Bank employee Berkman demonstrates how the World Bank's mission to 'alleviate poverty' has been derailed by corruption, a 'bloated bureaucracy' and mismanagement....His criticisms and prescriptions are clear and well-supported by scores of photocopies of internal memos and project documents....The book is a fascinating firsthand account of the bank's failures, and its case studies—notably sections on bank projects in Nigeria and the Gambia—make for a valuable and important read." -- Publishers Weekly

Basiru Choi August 2009
Duration : 117 Seconds

Basiru first approached us when he was in his senior year in secondary school. His father, a local imam, had injured himself and wanted Basiru to drop out of school and get a job. He refused any support to him unless he did so. Basiru lived with friend and sought support for his school expenses. He graduated near the top of his class in June 2008. Shortly thereafter, Basiru approached us about getting an Acccounting certificate from The Gambia's Management Development Institute. He enrolled in August, 2008 and is now about to begin the third of three phases of that program. He has completed AAT Foundation and AAT intermediate and is about to begin AAT Technician. He is the top student in his class, and is often asked to help other students (many of whom already work in local banks) with their studies. Seeing his success, his father is now supportive of his studies, and Basiru has moved back to his home. Interested in helping support Basiru or another Gambian student to stay in school? Part 2: Origins of The 2008 Global Financial Crisis - Sub-Prime Lending
Duration : 299 Seconds

GRTS - Gambia TV program "One-on-One: The Exclusive" interview with Abdul Khudus Muhammad Naaim, Islamic Financial Consultant from Malaysia who is on a working visit with Takaful Gambia Focus is on the 2008 Global Financial Crisis and Islamic Financing Part 2 - The 2008 Global Financial Crisis, its origins from the Internet Boom that went BUST. People basically forgot about the concept of diversifying investments. When the BUST came, the policies taken by the US Government to encourage Sub-Prime Lending led to money being lent to people with lower credit-worthiness. When borrowers dafaulted on their loans, banks began foreclosing their assets, selling their houses, thus triggering the ripple effects. fic.akngroup.com.my

Part 3: Origins of The 2008 Global Financial Crisis - Derivatives & CDS
Duration : 799 Seconds

GRTS - Gambia TV program "One-on-One: The Exclusive" interview with Abdul Khudus Muhammad Naaim, Islamic Financial Consultant from Malaysia who is on a working visit with Takaful Gambia Focus is on the 2008 Global Financial Crisis and Islamic Financing Part 3 - This eventually led to financial institutions' inability to get their money back from the borrowers. They then decided to repackage the loans as derivatives or bonds to liquidate the loans and sell them to investment banks as good credit rating derivatives/bonds which is covered by insurance firms under a CDS or Credit Default Swop Scheme. Fundamentally, the derivatives/bonds are covered by insurance should there be any defaults, the policy would pay for them rather than having assets backing the derivatives/bonds. At the height of the crisis AIG holds about 40 billion dollars worth of defaulted loans. Ultimately the 100 billion dollars Sub-Prime Lending coupled with the 668 billion dollars worth of derivatives papers issued exhausted the US Economy and its effects is felt around the world. The so-called "Free Market Economy" is a flawed vision, there should be some form of government oversight to contain and build-up the economic activities should there be problems such as the Sub-Prime Lending and derivatives. fic.akngroup.com.my

The Listening Post - Venezuela's troubled media - 14 Aug 09 - Pt 2
Duration : 588 Seconds

In part two, The Listening Post's Meenakshi Ravi explores media in exile. It is a common practice for news organisations to parachute correspondents around the world to report from global hotspots. We see them on our screens, we read their by-lines. But what we do not often hear about is the number of local journalists who are forced to escape from those very places. The media freedom group - Reporters Without Borders - reports that journalists are fleeing countries like Mexico, Sri Lanka and Myanmar at an average rate of six per month. Increasing intolerance of their work either puts these journalists out of work or puts their lives in danger. It is just a handful of these journalists in exile that manage to get back to the profession from outside their home country. In this week's Newsbytes: an Internet company with ties to Israel is shut down in Lebanon; the hack job that crashed Twitter and Facebook may have been targeted at just one Georgian blogger; the Dutch journalist taking the Kremlin to the European Court of Human Rights; six journalists jailed in the Gambia and the world's first online film festival. And, finally, China - with its huge reserves of foreign currency - is in a position that few economists would have forecasted just a few years ago. The country has become an important source of money for economies like the US, which have had to bail out banks, insurance companies and car makers with trillions of Chinese owned dollars. China is not doing this out ...

BANKER ALEX SINK 4 FLORIDA GOVERNOR? DO WE NEED A RICH BANKER?
Duration : 93 Seconds

www.youtube.com DID ALEX SINK CUT 8000 FLORIDA BANK JOBS? PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BANKING EXCESSES HAVE CRASHED THE ECONOMY. WRECKING THE BANKS AND HOME LOANS BY DEMOCRATS Corrine Brown, Harry Reid, Laura Richardson, Chris Dodd, Harry Reid. - Corrine Brown - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia -- A few weeks after (Corrine Brown) becoming a member of the US House in 1993, the Federal Elections Commission began investigating Corrine Brown. Rep. Corrine Brown's former campaign treasurer quit and said Corrine Brown had neglected to take action against an aide who had committed forgery, forging the treasurer's signature on Corrine Brown's financial documents. The staffer alleged to have forged the treasurer's signature stayed with Brown and as of 1998 was her chief of staff.[10] In 1996, there was another investigation concerning charges that Brown improperly received and spent a $10000 check from a secret account used for money laundering by National Baptist Convention leader Henry Lyons.[5] Brown admitted receiving the check but denied she had used the money improperly.[5] She was accused of not reporting the check or reporting who she received the money from. Brown said that she had taken the check and converted it into another check made out to Pameron Bus Tours to pay for transportation to a rally she organized in Tallahassee. She said that she didn't have to report the money because the rally was to protest the reorganization of her district lines, and she did not use it ...

SPREADING BELIEFS - A brief history
Duration : 296 Seconds

TRUT H (Telling Reality Underneath The Heavens)...Visit: www.meechadini.com and support the cause. Mansa Musa is mostly remembered for his extravagant hajj, or pilgrimage, to Mecca with, according to the Arab historian al-Umari, 100 camel-loads of gold, each weighing 300 lbs.; 500 slaves, each carrying a 4 lb. gold staff; thousands of his subjects; as well as his senior wife, with her 500 attendants. With his lavish spending and generosity in Cairo and Mecca, he ran out of money and had to borrow at usurious rates of interest for the return trip. Al-Umari also states that Mansa Musa and his retinue "gave out so much gold that they depressed its value in Egypt and caused its value to fall." However, attention should be focused on the effects of the hajj, rather than the pilgrimage itself. The hajj planted Mali in men's minds and its riches fired up the imagination as El Dorado did later. Mansa Musa brought back with him an Arabic library, religious scholars, and most importantly the Muslim architect al-Sahili, who built the great mosques at Gao and Timbuktu and a royal palace. Mansa Musa strengthened Islam and promoted education, trade, and commerce in Mali. The foundations were laid for Walata, Jenne, and Timbuktu becoming the cultural and commercial centers of the Western Sudan, eclipsing those of North Africa and producing Arabic-language black literature in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Diplomatic relations were established and ambassadors were exchanged ...
