A Densely Populated Near-Suburb of Paris, France
Duration : 78 Seconds

copyright 2012 Lisa B. Falour, BS, MBA all rights reserved LISA, INC. (EURL) cutecatfaith.com Saint-Denis (now often called Paris Saint-Denis) has a border contiguous with Paris, France. The first capital of France before Paris, (but France was a tiny country then, relatively speaking), it was an important walled market city going back to the Dark Ages. It has the world's first Gothic cathedral and its many churches were the number one place of Christian pilgrimage in France for over 1000 years. The famous Marché de Saint-Denis, an indoor and outdoor market, biggest in Europe (it is said), runs every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday morning from about 8 am until the early to mid-afternoon. The 13 métro, direction "Saint-Denis Université," taken to the "Saint-Denis Basilique" stop will get you right to the central part of this huge, densely populated and very mixed city, where over 80 languages are spoken daily. France tries to concentrate its population (about 66 million people) into cities with public transportation and services and avoids sprawl. Not all of these projects have been successes. Nearby Sarcelles comes to mind. France is the number two agricultural producing country in the world, and most of the country is rural and dedicated to farming. When teaching English in private homes, it's been interesting to visit clients who live in exurbs or in actual suburban residential developments. Most regret the choice! The children grow quickly and the adults are left with ...

FRANCE 24 Environment - Organic opportunity
Duration : 525 Seconds

Environment - Is organic food the gold standard we are led to believe? We start in China, where scientists are making human milk from genetically modified cattle and insist it is as healthy to drink as that from ordinary cows. Back in France, we assess how organic farming stacks up against conventional methods while in Ecuador, several hundred farmers have taken arms against the multinationals who are using organic produce as a selling point. Exporting Calves to Cruelty: Ramsgate Investigation
Duration : 300 Seconds

In late 2011 Compassion in World Farming initiated a series of investigations into the export of live farm animals from the UK. And, in early 2012, generous donations from Compassion supporters enabled our team to continue the campaign, trailing a lorry carrying calves from the UK, through France and into Spain -- simply to be fattened for the veal trade. These young calves were loaded on a farm in the west of England and transported, over a period of almost 60 hours, to a farm in northern Spain. Champs-Elysees avenue goes green
Duration : 166 Seconds

Falling food prices and increasing production costs have fueled one of the worst agricultural crises in decades. For two days, beginning on Sunday, the famous Parisian avenue, the Champs-Elysees, has been transformed into a giant fantasy garden with 150000 plants - including 650 fully grown trees. Farm animals have been moved in to complete the surreal picture in the heart of the French capital, attracting lots of attention for the farming industry. The organisers say they hope showcasing farm production - from sheep breeding to crop growing - will remind people that France is Europe's agricultural powerhouse, and subsequently win popular support ahead of key EU negotiations. Al Jazeera's Estelle Youssouffa reports from Paris. (23 May 2010)
