[YLE FST5 News 19.4] Tsemppi supports the "Friend Family" project by Reipas
Duration : 208 Seconds

International students are looking for Finnish friend families YLE FST5 News 19.4 (areena.yle.fi) In the recent years the amount of international university students has been growing steadily in Finland. Now there are about 23.000 of them. Unfortunately, most of them have no contact with Finnish families. This prevents, on the one hand, international students to get fully integrated in Finnish society and, on the other, Finns to understand students' cultural backgrounds, current experiences and future expectations. Reipas association (www.reipas.org), in collaboration with other groups and associations like the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) and Tsemppi, has launched the "Friend Family" project that aims to bridge this gap. If you are interested in Friend Family service, you can get additional information and sign up at www.reipas.org Please spread the word and help us involving as many Finnish families as possible!

Modern Society Responsible for Kauhajoki Finland School Shooting
Duration : 88 Seconds

www.corrupt.org Music "Autumn" by Síol Na Gréine www.hessian.org --- Thank you all for the comments so far. We look at them honestly and they help us refine our approach in the future. We up-rate all comments which add something useful to the discussion whether they agree with the video or not (ie: this isn't a popularity contest) ---- And so we're back again at where we started nearly a year ago, when high school shooter Pekka Eric Auvinen opened fire against his school mates and later commited suicide. A new massacre has taken place at a school in Kauhajoki, Finland, where 22-year old Matti Saari fired dozens of shots and killed ten people. The pattern in these killings is too obvious to ignore--these misanthropic, angry and emotionally fragile individuals are a product of our corrupt and self-destructive society. The media will try to cover this up as just another psycho who pulled a gun at a school, but with incidents like this becoming more common, we can't fool ourselves any longer: school shootings are a message and a warning to society. Saari clearly takes the same Darwinist standpoint as Auvinen did, applying extreme anti-humanist tactics to undermine the bread and circus-regime. This is the message of a socially isolated individual, desperate to communicate an inherent fault with our society, but unable to get his voice heard without killing people. How much more blood will be spilled before we change course? Visit www.corrupt.org for a new perspective.

Özü Türk - (Tatar-Tatarlar-Tatars from Finland) Part 3
Duration : 447 Seconds

The Tatars The Tatars of Finland are a Turkic people who espouse the Muslim faith. They number approximately 800 and form a well-established and homogeneous religious, cultural and linguistic minority. The Tatars are the oldest Muslim minority in Finland and throughout the Nordic countries. They have their historical origins in Turkey and their language belongs to the Turkic group. During the early years of Finland's status as an autonomous Grand Duchy under the Russian Tsars, Tatars were already being employed by the Russians on the construction of the Bomarsund fortress in Åland and the Suomenlinna/Sveaborg fortress on an island off Helsinki. Most of them returned to Russia. For the ones who did not, only an Islamic cemetery in Bomarsund bears witness to their presence in Finland. The ancestors of the present-day Tatars came to Finland from the 1870s to the mid 1920s from a group of some 20 villages in the Sergatch region on the Volga River, to the southeast of Nizhni-Novgorod, formerly Gorki. Most of them had been farmers but they settled in Finland as merchants trading in furs and textiles and chose initially to reside in Helsinki and its surrounding area. Tatars living in the city of Viipuri in Karelia resettled in Tampere and Helsinki when Karelia was ceded by Finland to the Soviet Union in 1944 as part of a peace agreement. Most Finnish Tatars continue to live in Helsinki and its surroundings. In 1925, the first Islamic congregation (Finlandiya Islam Cemaati ...

Learning-World Episode 7: Finland - First in class
Duration : 506 Seconds

This week Learning World is looking at Finland, which is recognised worldwide for its top ranking education model. Foreign delegations frequently visit the country to try and discover the secret of its success. We spent a day at a school in the capital Helsinki to find out more about the philosophy behind the Finnish system. Finland has the shortest formal teaching hours in Europe and the best educational results. Finnish children stay with the same class and the same teacher for at least six years -- which makes school like an extension of home. In Finland, competition to become a teacher is so fierce that all teachers have a Masters' degree. Heljä Misukka, the Secretary of State for Education, told euronews: "What is also maybe quite special in Finland is that teachers are quite autonomous in what they do, so they can, for example, choose the materials they like or the pedagogy they use. They have a lot of freedom in their work." Children learn by playing and experimenting in groups, like in the science class. Playtime is an important part of learning. There are lots of breaks and even in winter children are encouraged to play outdoors. The children are trusted -- even in the canteen, they are allowed to help themselves. There are no dinner ladies. The accent is on music, sport and the arts. And the school that euronews visited is not an exception -- let me tell you it is a typical Finnish school and the results they get are replicated all over the country. However ...
