Ville Valo is pure poetry, a melancholic romantic who lives in a beautiful castle in Helsinki with the lessons of a crazy past fueled by too much alcohol and drugs. A Tim Burton character, maybe, that could only be played by Johnny Depp, with his eyeliners on, of course. Valo is a man who fights aggressive demons of love and death and doesn't mind when they embrace, because if they do, then something will come out of it. Ville, who is releasing his seventh studio album with the successful Finnish band HIM, hasn't been drinking for two years. Yet, his feelings seem to take him into a psychodelic experience. He will always dive into a violent ocean of black waves and come out with a fish to share with the people. In this case, it's "Screamworks: Love In Theory and Practice", which will be out on Valentine's Day 2010. I met the instigating representative of Love Metal last week in Helsinki for a chat and some Red bull. He talked to me about love, relationships, literature, drugs and alcohol, and sent all of you Spin Earth viewers a message. Kalevala is considered the national epic of Finland and is one of the most significant works of Finnish literature. The poem talks about Väinämöinen, a wise old man, son of the goddess Luonnotar, which had magical gifts including verse and magical voice. Väinämöinen's voice had the power to charm people. The first version of The Kalevala was published in 1835. The version most commonly known today was first published in 1849 and Consists of 22.795 verses divided into fifty songs. In this tribute made by me for Tarja I attributed his magical voice as a blessing given by Väinämöinen - as a prophecy that sooner or later would be fulfilled. Amoprhis performing their partly acoustic show with Sakari Kukko during their concert hall tour in Finland.Formed in Helsinki, Finland, in 1990, Amorphis was originally conceived by guitarist Esa Holopainen and drummer/synthesizer player Jan Rechberger, who recruited vocalist and guitarist Tomi Koivusaari and bass player Olli-Pekka Laine. On the strength of their demo tape Disment Of Soul they secured a multi-album recording contract with Relapse Records, famed for their catalogue of American grind bands. In December 1991 the band recorded six tracks for a shared album with labelmates Incantation, but the record was never actually released. Two tracks appeared on a limited-edition 7-inch single. In May 1992, the quartet travelled to Stockholm, Sweden, to record 11 tracks for their debut album, The Karelian Isthmus, with engineer/producer Tomas Skogsberg. A crushing demonstration of state-of-the-art death metal, the dramatic atmosphere of the songs was further enhanced by the addition of keyboard player Kasper Martenson. In the wake of the success of Amorphis' debut, Relapse elected to release the abandoned split LP session as the Privilege Of Evil EP. In September 1993 Amorphis returned to Stockholm to record 10 further tracks for their second full-length album, Tales From The Thousand Lakes. Leena Pasanen, born in 1965, studied Finnish language and literature at Oulu University. She started her carrier as a journalist in 1988 at the Finnish News Agency. In 1993 she joined YLE, Finnish Broadcasting Company, where she worked as a reporter, political commentator, subeditor and TV-presenter. From 1999 to 2000 she was the head of documentaries for YLE TV1. When the digital cultural channel YLE Teema was launched, Leena Pasanen was chosen as Head of Programme. Since 2004 she was also the deputy director of the channel. From November 2005 to Aug 2008 she was the director of the European Docmentary Network (EDN). Since 2000, Leena has built up a strong reputation as one of the most internationally orientated and engaged European commissioning editors, especially known for her support to new talent. As an expert and tutor Leena has been called upon from workshops organised by Discovery Campus, Television Business School, Eurodoc and EDN. EDN started in 1996 and has now around 750 members from more than 50 countries. The association provides members with information about the European documentary market, publishes the DOX Magazine, the EDN TV Guide, organises workshops and conferences with the support of the EU MEDIA Programme and in collaboration with local and regional partners. Members are production companies, filmmakers, directors, festival organisers, broadcasters, film institutes and other documentary professionals.

Middle of April and still snow on the ground... when will winter end. Tips of rose bush eat by rabbits. Pruned one side of big apple tree to make it more airy, and left the branches on the ground for the hares and rabbits to much on rather than my rose. Inspected my two new apple frees and they seem to have survived the winter well. Snow is slowly disappearing and bulbs are beginning to show thee heads in the flowerbed. Growing some Russian heritage tomato seeds in the basement called Silver fir tree. It is an interesting plant. You can find out more about it here www.cherrygal.com
