Climate change in northern Europe is exposing hunting gear used by the ancestors of Vikings, even faster than archaeologists can collect them. According to climate experts, the thawing ice in Norway's mountains is one example of a wider trend that sees glaciers around the world in retreat. More than 5900 ft above sea level, man-made climate change is melting the ice near Norway's tallest mountain. In a strange twist of fate, archaeologists are reaping the benefits. Ancient artifacts are revealing themselves after being long locked in ice. Among them, this scare stick -- used to drive reindeer towards viking archers 1500 years ago. [Lars Piloe, Danish Scientist and Team Leader]: "Well they used the natural behavior of the reindeer to guide them down to where the hunters were hidden." Being free from the ice means this collection of artifacts can rot within days. What should be a long and painstaking academic study becomes a race against time. [Lars Piloe, Danish Scientist and Team Leader]:"Out main focus now is the rescue part -- to rescue the artifacts before they're gone." An ice cave has been dug to show how the artifacts may have looked when trapped in their frozen caves - a leather shoe 3400 years old; a perfectly-preserved arrow, complete with feather. The bock saga is a combination historical, mythological, and linguistic system which apparently was all but destroyed by the Roman Catholic Church. It roots in the origins of mankind, their genetic and social traditions, and a linguistic system passed down from generation to generation which uses sounds to explain higher meanings. Ior Bock (Lor Bock) from Finland is the last surviving person from his family and began to reveal the saga in the eighties.
