Polynesian Archeological Ruins
Duration : 106 Seconds

From the www.VideoSource.com Global Village Travel Guide and DVD, "Islands of the South Pacific". Stock footage available from http Transcript: To experience the Heiva with its traditional activities is to be transported to a vanished era before the old ceremonial sites, such as these "mareas" along the coastal road to Papeete were abandoned. Archeologists consider the marae Ara hurahu somewhat of a mystery and have only speculated on what might have taken place here. Ceremonies in preperation for long voyages, the birth of royal children, or the victories of war all played their part in the history of these sites. The complex has large, open alters built of uniformly perfect stones. One of the alters is known to have served the war god Oro. Bodies of important enemies where often buried at the mareas to consecrate the site. Nearby, marea Ta'ata consists of three long rectangular compounds surrounded by low rock walls. This marea is known for its' remarkably uniform stone work. These restored sites represent but a few of the many still hidden in the verdant hills, and even today they are considered Taboo and occupied by ancestral ghosts.

Paradise Hunter - Al Lewis.m4v
Duration : 69 Seconds

For the past 30 years I've been fortunate to make the globe a personal playground. Throughout an exciting career with Air Canada, I've explored, traveled and studied the worlds far reaches, appreciating the diverse opportunities afforded to me. My love for "off the beaten path" travels, mixed with a serious dose of curiosity has led to a unique appreciation of the diverse cultures our planet has to offer. From sailing on tall ships through the Caribbean to canoe explorations through the jungle regions of the Amazon, Borneo and Papua New Guinea, my perpetual thirst to learn and experience the remote and unknown has been unquenchable. My camera and travel journals have been my constant companions and I've had articles published in various travel magazines and newspapers. I've always been a keen appreciator of art in all its forms, acquiring an impressive collection of primitive tribal carvings as well as a wonderful library of antiquarian books dating back to the 1600s. On several occasions I've donated acquisitions from my trips to museums, which has been greatly rewarding as well. From my Vancouver, British Columbia home base, I became involved in television and film, with numerous local, regional, and international commercials before moving to British Columbia's Okanagan valley to start a family. I've always been up for new challenges, from studying Spanish in Guatemala, to landscape design, and most recently Central American archaeology. Recently, a close friend ...
