In 1968 our calender Somalia invaded Ethiopia, because, Somalia was well prepared for 18 years and had modern weapons. And had 70000 solders. in contrast, Ethiopia had 40000 solders poorly equipped and unprepared to a large scale war. Also, Ethiopia was in the grip of internal conflict ; in addition, in the north west ,Sudan militarily started to attack Ethiopian garrison towns , also there was a strong rebel movements in the Sahel Eritrea, Begemder and Tigray regions . All these stretched Ethiopia's army beyond its capacity. thus, the condition was ideal for Somalia's plan. In 1967- to the -middle of 1968 Somali's invading army took several cities across vast area of Ogaden region. in the late 1968 Ethiopia's army by paying ultimate price manged to stop the advancing Somali, therefore, for the following 6 months the war was in stall-mate. This bought time for Ethiopia and by 1969 the Durge government manged to raise the number of solder to 300000 strong. At this time a massive Russian military aid, 15000 Cuban solders and few hundred south Yemeni solders came to Ethiopia's aid. In Somali's side the united state government massively supplied ammunition and military equipments. Egypt sent military advisers , used experts in military intelligence gathering , military related equipments and firing weapons to Somali . China also sided with Somalia and supplied weapons and materials. 15000 Cuban solders , Russian advisers and Yemenis played significant role for which we are ...

The Ethiopian airforce played a great role in dismantling the Eritrean army during the two year war. Asmara and Massawa airports were rendered useless by Ethiopian war planes. The Eritrean airforce managed in frustration two attacks, one on a pharmacy and the other, the infamous Ayder attack in which Eritrean pilots were ordered to slam rockets into a primary school. The Ethiopian airforce destroyed Eritrean runways, miliray hardware storages, and played a role in the Badme battle where the Eritrean built fortified trenches were broken down and destroyed by Ethiopian forces. The army and airforce cooperation was too much for the overconfident Eritreans who were slaughtered on the fronts of Badme, Bure, Zalambessa and Tsorona. An Eritrean soldier, a veteran of the badme defeat was asked about his country's airforce. "We did not see them. We were told that our airforce downed Ethiopian planes, but we never saw this happen. Also we were told Ethiopia doesnt have heavy weapons. But we got thrashed." Later the same soldier added, "maybe our planes are in the museums!"

The Ethiopian armed forces in a show of force blasted past Eritrean defences on at least 5 fronts, and sent residents of Eritrea fleeing in a mass panic. The scale of Eritrea's defeat was evident after their leader Issaias Afeworke, after learning about the horrible massacre of his troops on the Badme front, apparently made a late night phone call to UN secretary General Kofi Annan to notify him of Eritrea accepting the peace deal it had rejected only weeks prior. Ethiopian soldiers with a coordinated pincer movement surprised the Eritrean defenders, who after initially resisting, fell into full retreat as the might and force of the Ethiopian army was too much to bear. An estimate 30000 Eritrean soldiers were either killed or wounded between February 22nd and February 26th 1999. Having dislodged the Eritrean invaders, the jubiliant heroic Ethiopian soldiers played the Ethiopian National Anthem while raising their flag in the middle of Badme for all to see.

Gunmen in Ethiopia's arid north attacked a group of European tourists, killing five, wounding two and kidnapping two Germans. Two Ethiopians were also taken hostage. Two Germans, two Hungarians and an Austrian were among the five killed. Two Belgians were seriously hurt and two Italians escaped unharmed. Ethiopia accused Eritrea as her proxy groups executed the attack. Both countries have been harboring proxy fighters to do their dirty jobs in the name of liberation movement, since their war that started in 1998 but never finished. Today many in the West even suspect the Ethiopian dictator himself perpetuated the attack to have the upper hand when recently Eritrea was cleared of accusation delivering three planes full of arms to Al Shabab in Somalia by the UN. The only door out left for the Ethiopian dictator is to topple his frère enemy Isaias Afewrki from power in Asmara by putting his Puppet regime if not tempted to make an outright annexation of her ex Provence. War and cloud of war is on the air. This new rummer of war between the two old enemies could risk blocking the principal water rout of the Red sea at a time the world is menaced by Iran on the closure of the Straight Straits of Hormuz.
