Estonia is ranked as the second most irreligious country in the world and the most atheistic country in Europe. A big reason for this is its long history of religious oppression including communism. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sent the missionaries to Estonia in1989 where the first convert in the entire Soviet Union was converted and baptized. Despite negative demographics concerning religion, some of the most valiant and faithful saints (members of the church) are Estonians. The converts in this movie were a few of many baptized in Estonia from 2007-2009. They are all currently active, and the two men are currently serving as Branch Presidents in Parnu and Tartu. Here are their stories...

www.TravelsWithSheila.com Before you think, "I'm not going to watch a video about a church," St. John's Church was built in the 14th century and is Tartu's oldest surviving church. The church was quiet when we first walked in and then the organist began tuning up before beginning a virtuoso and dramatic performance of music that echoed around the church. We sat mesmerized, looking at the 14th century oils from the gospel and terra cotta statues, both inside and out. A person couldn't have asked for a more spine tingling experience and St. John's will be my favorite memory of Tartu.

It was the hit of Estonia in the Summer of 1994, a light hearted pop song, called "Do You Speak English", about an American struggling to speak Estonian with local women. That American was Omaha native Douglas Wells, a young Peace Corps Volunteer in Estonia. Wells was a drummer in college bands, who had to change instruments and travel more than 4000 miles to score a hit.
