Egyptian artists paint detailed murals and portraits of those killed during the revolution on the streets of downtown Cairo where protesters clashed with security forces. Mohamed Mahmoud Street a broad avenue that connects the interior ministry to Tahrir Square has been a staging ground for deadly clashes between pro-democracy protesters and the security forces during the uprising that toppled the Mubarak's regime last year and amid the turmoil that has since followed. This main avenue along with its side streets have witness the use of tear gas, batons, birdshots as well as live ammunition on demonstrators by police and soldiers, killing hundreds and wounding thousands. Following the latest February clashes, a group of artists took the initiative to convert the district into an open air exhibition with art enthused by the uprising. In the capital's main square, Tahrir, a painting of Mubarak can be seen. In early March, a "Drawing Through Walls" graffiti campaign was launched to mark the one-year anniversary of when the military forcefully broke up a demonstration in Tahrir and detained activists and sent them to military courts. The campaign saw graffiti inscribed on barricade blocks placed in key areas around the interior ministry and the People's Assembly. Activists see the graffiti as an artistic way to continue to challenge those in power and to remind them that the street is still alive and vibrant. Bakalovich was the son an artist , his Mother was a famous actress in Warsaw. he studied the arts at the Warsaw School of Drawing (1874-1876) . In 1876 Bakalovich arrives in St. Petersburg and entered the Academy of Arts. Studying brilliantly and ends in 1881 with a gold medal and the right to a pensioner's trip . Bakalovich went to Krakow to J. Matejko, then to Paris, visiting Algeria. In 1883, gets to Rome, and, struck by the beauty of antiquities & he used & loved to paint ancient Rome life .. ect . A group of workers have stumbled across a hidden room containing hundreds of paintings believed to date back to the Kingdom of Egypt of the early twentieth century. They made the discovery while carrying out restoration work at Cairo's National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. At least 222 works of art and documents were discovered in what looks like a cellar in the museum. The discovered pieces include paintings and historic documents such as newspapers and maps, some of which date back to the time of Egypt's King Farouk who reigned from 1936 until he was deposed in the Egyptian Revolution in 1952. Tarek Ma'Moun, general manager of National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, said, "Those artworks represent Orientalists, realist artists and the new classic art. We also found a collection of the work that shows Egypt's ability to compete with foreign art." The Egyptian Museum of Civilization was built in 1936 during the reign of King Farouk. Its purpose was to document the history of civilization including the Stone Age, Ancient Egypt and the Coptic Age. But currently the museum is closed to the public while it is being renovated. The cache of paintings, which tell stories of Egyptian life under a monarchy, were found in a small space. The paintings are thought to have belonged to the Egyptian royal family. They will now be re-housed and put on display at the al-Jazeera museum, famous for containing thousands of paintings that were part of the royal collection.

Dazzling Paintings from Ancient Egypt The new gallery is centred round the spectacular painted tomb-chapel of Nebamun. Amazingly given the quality of the paintings on show, Nebamun wasn't a Pharaoh or ruler, but merely an accountant in the Temple of Amun at Karnak. He died around 1350BC, a generation before Tutankhamun. The paintings show Nebamun at work and at leisure surveying his estates and hunting in the marshes. Egyptian Galleries Mark Major Preservation Project These are some of the most famous images of Ancient Egyptian art, and are all the more evocative because the location of the original tomb-chapel of Nebamun has been lost. This is the first time in nearly 10 years that the Nebamun paintings have gone on public display. The tomb-paintings were acquired by the British Museum in the 1820s and were on display until the late 1990s. Since then, the fragile wall-paintings have undergone the most extensive conservation project in the British Museum's history, securing them for at least the next 50 years. The Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC) organized an exhibition of paintings entitled "India and Egypt : Mirror Images" by Yousef Damoum. His Excellency Dr. Salah El Meligy, the Head of the Fine Arts Sector, Ministry of Culture of the Arab Republic of Egypt and HE Mr. R. Swaminathan, Ambassador of India to Egypt inaugurated the exhibition . Youssef Damoum is an Egyptian archaeologist who has developed a great interest in painting in the course of his work. After his training in archaeology from Cairo University he joined the firm Arab Contractors as a conservator and participated in the conservation of several important Egyptian monuments such as Sultan Hassan and Rifai mosques as well as the Jewellery Museum in Alexandria. He is also an admirer of India and has studied India's ancient sculpture and painting. Thus, his paintings draw inspiration both from Pharaonic art and sculpture as well as from Ajanta paintings of India and medieval and ancient Indian sculpture.. "
