In the video, she explains how Egyptians believed that animals were born as gods' creatures, and that gods would enter their bodies and animate it. The sounds animals made were thought to be the secret language of the gods; thus Egyptians felt they were actually closer to divinity than themselves, and would question animals, through a priest's interpretation, on matters as mundane as inheritance or property.

( heritage-key.com ) Animals were deeply sacred in ancient Egypt, particularly from the 26th dynasty around 700 BC until the end of Egyptian civilization and the advent of Christianity by 400 AD. They were believed to be the living embodiment of gods, so preserving their corpses after death became a matter of the utmost importance. As Dr Ikram explains, Egyptian embalmers would go to painstaking and expensive lengths to mummify everything, from ibis to cows, mice and fish. Cats had particularly high status in Egyptian society, while mummified dogs have been found by the thousands. Even lowly scarab beetles were carefully preserved.

ACE - Animal Care in Egypt Registered Charity UK 1082679 Egypt Society #2 Luxor www.ace-egypt.org.uk ACE was opened in July 2000 by two animal lovers (Julie Wartenberg and Kim Taylor) who had initially come to Egypt on holiday. They were so distressed by the condition of the horses and donkeys they saw around Luxor, they decided to do something to help. ACE started as a simple idea to give these animals a break from their long working day in the hot sun, somewhere they could have their tack removed, a wash and a drink. The dirt and sweat under the tack was rubbing, causing sores and eventually open wounds. Now many of these sores are being prevented by teaching the owners to regularly wash their animals. ACE has now evolved into a fully functioning veterinary hospital with up to 200 animals visiting a day (most requiring some sort of medical attention), ranging from camels, horses and donkeys to cats, dogs and even tortoises. ACE knows that most visitors rarely see the thousands of working animals serving the needs of the tourist industry. They are still used as the main transport for most things, from the bricks, steel and cement used in the building to the huge amount of food and drink consumed in Luxor every day. These animals are almost overloaded and overworked. ACE is trying to improve the lives of these animals not only by treatment but also by education and prevention. 21 January 2008 Despite an international ban, the trade in endangered animals to the Middle East is flourishing. This exclusive report tracks the dealers, buyers and government officials who protect them. In January 2005, a crate containing six baby chimpanzees and four monkeys was rescued from a flight from Cairo. The animals had been denied food and water for days and one soon died. Scouring flight records, animal investigators linked the shipment to a notorious wildlife smuggler. It's believed this smuggler traffics an average of 40 chimpanzees a year, bribing airport officials. Despite a wealth of evidence against her, she has never been prosecuted.

1) Egypt : CAT CULT (DUR: 7'51) Throughout the ages the cat has been cursed as a demon by some and venerated in other periods as a deity. Nowhere was the cat more revered than in Ancient Egypt. The Ancient Egyptians are credited with domesticating felines 5000 years ago. Its thought that all cats in Europe are descendants from the Egyptian's pets. But the cat wasn't just a respected member of the household it was a goddess. Bastet or Bast as she is also known was the cat goddess. She was the goddess of love, joy and fertility. Her name was found in one of the pyramids of Giza. It's believed that she was protector of the North of Egypt. She also guarded the body of the kings. At Bubastis, 80 kilometres North-east of Cairo archaeologists discovered a vast necropolis containing mummified cats. Thirteen temples dedicated to the cat were also found there. At Bubastis, Bast was celebrated with huge festivals. Even today there are still followers of Bast. Animal X obtained exclusive home video of the cat cult in California. Hundreds or perhaps even more follow the ancient teachings and give offerings to Bast, just as they did thousands of years ago. 2) Australia : ALIEN ANIMALS (DUR: 6'19) Many people believe we have been visited by alien beings from other planets ... so is it possible that they sometimes travel with their inter-galactic pets? The information in this video was channeled from Ra, spokesperson for the Pleiadian Emissaries of Light. I am not the channeler. 1) Egypt : SALAAWA (DUR: 9'02) From Egypt comes a tale of a mysterious beast, reported to have injured dozens of people in ferocious night-time attacks. It's name, the Salaawa, or female ghoul. Animal X went to meet the victims of this bizarre stalker and to see first-hand the horrific injuries they've sustained. Witness accounts vary, but most say the animal looks like a dog or wolf. Some claim it has supernatural powers the ability to change shape and jump high in the air. Following 23 attacks in just two weeks in Quattamiya, police set up patrols in the district and ordered residents to stay indoors. The animal responsible was eventually killed, but only after savaging an entire family. They claim it was invincible and when they threw it on a fire, it's body would not burn. 2) AUS : DOLPHIN THERAPY (DUR: 7'43) From the West Coast of Ireland to the West Coast of Australia people are taking to the waters to swim with dolphins as a means of therapy. From children with autism to adults with schizophrenia and MS, all seem to feel an overwhelming sense of calm and well-being after having swum with dolphins. March 1998 One man befriends a dolphin in a story of dubious eco-tourism in Egypt. In the remote Sinai desert by the edge of the Red Sea there is a small miracle occurring. Abdallah Muzana, who is partially deaf and has learning difficulties, has befriended not only a dolphin, but a golden goose. Folks from far off Places are flocking to see Abdallah and Olene the dolphin. For a small fee one may even swim with Olene. There are however, a few who believe there is too much emphasis on the fiscal and not enough on the welfare of the dolphin. "All the arguments are about money, there are no arguments if you hurt the animal," claims one tourist. The influx of tourists has had an explosive effect on the local economy which is mainly made up of Abdallah's family. Even the genuine Bedouin village an hours drive away is populated with Abdallah's relatives. As we see Abdallah playing with Olene there are rumours awry that the Muzana family are trying to befriend another dolphin just in case Olene doesn't play ball one morning.
