A military agreement between the United States and Columbia has led to widespread concern in South America. Leaders want to know why the United States is trying to increase its military presence in the region. The Colombian government says that having more US troops in the country will help fight drug trafficking and combat terrorism. Venezuela's Hugo Chavez, however, ardently opposes these plans. He says that the military bases in Columbia will provoke conflict in Latin America. PHOENIX - Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she's stunned and angry over comments by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Hillary Clinton that the Obama administration will sue the state over its new immigration law. In a June 8 media interview in Ecuador that began circulating Thursday in the US, Clinton said President Barack Obama thinks the federal government should determine immigration policy and that the Justice Department "will be bringing a lawsuit against the act." The Justice Department has been looking at the law for weeks, with an eye toward a possible court challenge. It's unclear why Clinton made the comment since it's not her area. The Justice Department says it was not an official announcement, as "the department continues to review the law" and they have not yet decided whether or not to sue.
