This project aims to strengthen the collective memory of Ecuadorian society of key moments in its social struggle through the digitisation of documents of various types that detail the main events in recent Ecuadorian history. The aim is to stimulate broad discussion about important social processes and to educate the younger generations about historical events over the past 25 years in a non-formal manner through the production of multimedia content. Production of the various materials occurs in close collaboration with those who witnessed the events in order to write history alongside the official version. At the same time, a platform for communication and information is being set up by strengthening the Radio la Luna web site. An on-line radio service is being set up for those listeners outside Quito under bad broadcasting conditions. The project will strengthen ties with independent broadcasting organisations and other information networks throughout Latin America in order to exchange content and lessons learned about conserving and strengthening collective memory but also about the use of ICTs to achieve this. The goal of organisation Participación Ciudadana is to involve the Ecuadorian society in processes of social transformation. For this process to occur it is vital that citizens are informed properly and impartially. The underlying project aims to publish an electronic newspaper called Ciudadanía Informada with a national ambition but produced by regional news agencies in the provinces of Azuay, Guayas, Imbabura and Orellana in order to counterbalance the centralised, urban bias in Ecuadorian journalism. The newspaper is published on the web site of Participación Ciudadana www.ciudadaniainformada.com and focuses on political, juridical, legislative, electoral, citizenry, and Latin American matters. To complement the information provided and to allow for a deepening of analyses the project also accommodates the publication of blogs, electronic forums and interactive graphics. The first Muslims settlers were primarily Arabs from what is known to us now as Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and Egypt. They emigrated to Ecuador for the same reasons they came to the rest of the Latin world, escaping from World War I and II. These Arab Muslims entered these lands under Turkish passports from the Ottoman Empire. Therefore, these first Arab Muslims were known as "Turks." The settlements were basically in the capital city of Quito and in Guayaquil, the largest seaport by the Pacific Ocean. However, some Muslims went to the coastal side by the Manab, Los Ríos, and Esmeraldas provinces. Ecuador's peaceful environment attracted them very much. "Bullfighting and society: beyond the abolition in Catalonia" Less than 10 minutes long, the video uses a series of interviews and images to illustrate exactly what happened in Catalonia - and the emotional final moment that represented a historic victory for the animals. Thanks to the protagonists, we are able to experience first-hand some of the most prominent stories, as well as gain an insight into the effect that this decision has had both in Catalonia and in other parts of the world, where such shows featuring animals are still officially recognised. The Foundation Franz Weber is today the most active organisation in the world in terms of fighting these animal shows. It operates in each of the countries where such practices are still legal: Spain, France, Portugal, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador.

In Septmber 2009, Peter Hall climbed the world's tallest active volcano to raise much-needed funds for The Alzheimer's Society. The challenge, which involved climbing four peaks in two weeks, culminated in a gruelling 19637ft climb with ice axes and crampons up steep glaciers to the summit of Cotopaxi in Ecuador. Alzheimer's Society raised more than 2m pounds in 2008 thanks to 16000 people taking part in charity events - an average of just 125 pounds per person. When compared to the approximately 10m pounds left as legacies each year to animal welfare organisations, it is clearly an under-supported charity in the UK. alzheimers.org.uk

Covers Feb 25 to March 2, places visited are Papallacta Pass and Springs, Guango Lodge, night spent at San Isidro Cabanas. Birding around San Isidro next day, then off to WildSumaco but birding along the way with stops along Cordillera de Guacamayos and Loreto road. Four nights at WildSumaco Lodge gave some spectacular birding of the hard-to-film type. As usual in those situations I insert some photos of key birds, and use the soundtrack of a film clip from the approximate region. Eventually we leave Sumaco the same way we came: along Loreto Road (no Orange-breasted Falcons) and Cordillera de Guacamayos and returns to Quito via Guango Lodge and through Papallacta Pass. The weather wasn't any better, so we didn't stop. Last night in Quito was spent with a nice dinner and the last list check. We ended up with well over 900 species! Jonas is a remarcable man, a true Miracle Man in the birding society! Tired but content we left for Sweden next morning; March 3:rd.
