Clement grows over 40 different eatable garden plants on his small farm. David and Gaynell, Directors of The Foundation for Amateur International Radio Service (FAIRS) visited Dominica in February 2009. They lived and operated amateur radio from the Pierre-Louis J73CPL J73HPL home as J79WWW and J79WW , making about 1500 contacts during the week. David and Gaynell also did FAIRS mission work with the radio amateurs of Dominica and provided medical supplies to the hospital in Roseau and the clinic in Castle Bruce. They enjoyed the fresh fruit and vegetables from Clements farm everyday. It was a great 2 weeks of work and visiting old friends. This was the 17th visit in the past 14 years. Many FAIRS members from around the world have contributed to these activities by working in Dominica donating time and funds. The small village of Castle Bruce has 15 new hams most of them are still students in high school and they need a place to operate amateur radio. In the pictures You will see the installation of a Nema 4 enclosure that is housing both vhf and uhf repeaters including the uhf duplexer and repeater controller. all points of entry are protected with lightening arrestors. He not only donated the equipment but also climbed to the mountain top to over see the installation.Other participants were Clement Pierre Louis J73cpl(President of the DARCI). Here is a poem I wrote that depicts a woman who has struggled with her sexuality through the years because of the negative connotations from much of society. It is estimated that over 6000 people commit suicide each year directly related to the fact that their sexuality causes them so much heartache. "I was born in Delices, a village on the South-Eastern coast of Dominica in the Caribbean. There, West African and European cultures blended into a beautiful mixture of music, costumes, dance, and color during festivities such as the pre-Lenten Masquerade (Carnival, or Mardi Gras). People danced the bele, mazouk, and quadrille to the accompaniment of drums and jing ping bands. Even today, village chantwels (female lead singers and composers) create songs about social and political issues, as well as the latest village gossip. On full moon nights, young and old gathered to sing, dance, tell stories, and play music and ring games. In every home, grandparents recounted to children stories of the mythical and folk characters like Soucouyan and Lougarou, who still--it is said--inhabit the countryside. Cultural activity was an integral part of daily life. Production of staple crops like cassava (manioc, or yuca) excluded wage labor through a system called koudmen (from the French coup de main), though which villagers traded skills and work hours. At harvest time, women scraped the cassava roots while men ground them and dried the mash over the fire in huge, shallow iron pots. As we worked, everyone sang to the music ...

It is very easy to access and the trail is about 1/2 mile and takes about 45 minutes to see all the plants and Falls/Pool. It is a beautiful hike with all the tropical plants and fresh mountains water and stream. Dominica is reported to have 365 rivers and does have a lovely Rain Forest. The Island is rugged mostly mountains - up to 4747 feet in height. The Island is know as the nature Island of the Caribbean. We have visited Dominica about 18 times during the past 13 years and looking forward to each new visit.
