Leon Knibbs Hi let me just take this moment with you to share a bit of my life intrests and joys. I was born on an island in the caribean called Dominica and being dominican opened me up to the smooth caribean rhytms that was heard frequently through carnelvals and national celebrations. Which ignited my musical intrest through the years. I started out as a percussionist playing with different groups and artists like Mantra, Woodenstools, the Boys and Them and Eric Donaldsson. Moving to sweden made it possible for me too widen my musical background/ career. through the years I have played and recorded with an number of wellknown artists like Jukka Tolonnen, Mockba Music, Jahmaica, Modern Sound Corporation, Hassan Bah Bush Bandwhich and eventually build my own band called Leon and the Pyramidix Im a songwriter, guitarist, vocalist, percussionist and somewhere through the transitions of life arrived at plane where I got into oil-paintings.

The Italian painter Fra Angelico (ca. 1387-1455) achieved a unique synthesis of the mystical, visionary realms of medieval devotional painting with the Renaissance concern for representing the visually perceived world of mass, space, and light. The monastic life of Fra Angelico began about 1418in the Order of Dominican Preachers in Fiesole, near Florence. His secular name had been Guido di Pietro, and his monastic name was Fra Giovanni da Fiesole. The appellatives Fra Angelico and Beato Angelico came into use only after his death to recall his spirituality as a man and an artist. The painter's earliest known works were created at the monastery of S. Domenico at Fiesole in the late 1420s and early 1430s. This video is a short clip showing how my class project progressed from the idea of mapping the Dominican Friar, Girolamo Savonarola's Florence from the Bonfires of the Vanities and past his execution. Fire is the central element and theme for this video since Savonarola's preaching style started out charismatic and continued until he was condemned the wealthy, Patrons, and Pope in his zeal regarding apocalyptic sermons. The Friar's preaching and ability to move the people in his direction resulted in the now infamous 'Bon Fires of the Vanities' which destroyed countless books, paintings, music sheets, and decor. Savonarola preached hell, fire, and brimstone so passionately against the church and the sinners that in May of 1498 long after an official excommunication, Savonarola and two followers were hung. The Pope did not want Savonarola being sainted or his relics stored for future generations so he had the bodies engulfed in flames and the ashes swept into the river thus not allowing for his martyrdom. Unlike many videos this was built around showing the process of planning the idea, working through thought processes; layering maps, oil paint, India Ink, gauche watercolors, and music. So this is open for suggestions; however please keep in mind that this is specifically for one project, for one professor and I must maintain those guidelines.

Este es un video del interiror del Templo de Tlacochahuaya, con imágenes de los retablos y pintura murales ya restaurados. Escogimos éste GLORIA, porque a nuestro juicio encaja perfectamente con la alegría y festividad plasmados en la pintura mural de éste Templo. En su entrevista, La maestra Olvera nos describía el Barroco Mexicano como un sincretismo, una mezcla, en donde lo "nuevo" que surge, tiene por ende un sabor, estilo y características locales. Manuel de Arenzana, un compositor de Clasisismo Mexicano, nos entrega ese sincretismo también en su música. Suena un tanto profana, pero es muy alegre, hermosa, profunda, vibrante, con tonos emotivos, llenos de un hermoso colorido, que al escucharla, no queda duda: Música, del Género Sacro...MEXICANO !! Como siempre, por favor agreguen comentarios y sugerencias. Cordiales Saludos. This is a video of the interor walls of Tlacochahuaya's Church already restored. I selected this musical piece, because to me, it perfectly matches the paintings. The mix that came out as a result when both worlds joined, is the distinction of our culture. The Music of Arenzana, also reflects that: It has a sense of profanity, but is very joyful, festive, deep, beautiful, full of color and when you listen to it, definitely, is a Sacred work, with MEXICAN features in it. I'm sorry if this video doesn't help you any... I'm not sure how else to explain this. I just do it.... If you're looking for some help then perhaps seek an actual art teacher as I am not. I've never taken art classes and don't know how else to explain what I do. If you can't gather the technique I use from the video or through the written lay out below then I'm sorry I cannot help you. Step 1: Materials - Get a decent piece of drawing paper and a pencil. Use whatever suits you. I personally just use mechanical pencils. Be sure to have a decent big eraser, a small eraser for details, a blending tool (in my case tissue paper rolled up), and something to wipe away the shavings. I use a make-up brush. Step 2: Sketch - Find a good reference. I generally use photos by Dominica Nawrot from DeviantArt. If you use any of her work, please ask her for permission and give her credit for her wonderful photos! - I will start by isolating the area I'd like to draw. In this case, it was a photo of a horse trotting but I only wanted the head and neck so I cropped it and placed it on my computer screen. I enlarged it to see some details. It will become slightly distorted so I will compensate the best I can. Once I have my reference set, I'll start sketching. - I have no standard technique for sketching. I will just look at the reference and draw it so it's naturally freehand. You, however, can do the sketch whatever way you feel comfortable with it. - It may take several times for you to ...

Este es un avance del Proceso de Restauración de la Pintura Mural en Tlacochahuaya. En el Coro, Los Arcángeles, llaman mucho la atención por su estilo y formas. Su iconografía y estructura se adaptan al Canon Bíblico de Arcángeles. Según la Tradición Judeo-Cristiana y de acuerdo a un mismo Arcángel, (Rafael, el el Libro de Tobías) son siete los que ocupan ésta jerarquía, pero solo 3 de ellos se mencionan en la Biblia, (Gabriel, Miguel y Rafael), los demás, se mencionan pero en libros Apócrifos, ya pesar de ello, en algunos retablos de otras Iglesias aparecen, entre ellos: Uriel, Raciel, Chamuel, etc. Tlacochahuaya representa a los 3 que son parte del Canon Bíblico, Miguel como jefe de la Milicia Celestial, con su espada , casco y vestimenta Romanas, el escudo es substituido por una palma que también, es la representación iconográfica de la Victoria. Gabriel como mensajero, con el lirio en la mano, y el pulgar levantado en señal de recitación de mensajes divinos, aunque aquí tiene toda la palma extendida. Rafael ya no está, solo se distinguen sus botines, aunque se representa con ropa de viajero y un Pez en la mano. Para cubrir el espacio del cuarto Arcángel, se há puesto al Angel Custodio o Guardián, con el alma de todo el género humano representado en un niño, que a la vez, nos da un mensaje muy especial, pues el niño se representa en una forma muy sencilla, en algunos casos el Angel lo lleva de la mano, en Tlacochahuaya la mano derecha toca la cabeza del niño, la pierna ...
