Kalinago Community of Dominica May 2008 during a historic enactment of their ancestors sea journeys from South America (now Surinam/Guyana) through the chain of Caribbean isles heading north. Chief Williams led the procession with Gerald Langlais of the Kalinago Nation presiding over sacred ceremony. This effort has served as a preservation, conservation and indigenous historic restoration of the native ancestors and their ascendants in what is now called the "Carib Territory" in the nature isle of Dominica. This is the first recorded birth of this type anywhere in the world, and augers well for the future of this parrot which is Dominicas National Symbol. Stephen Durand, Assistant Forest Officer, gives details of this momentous event in a statement to the local media on May 13, 2010, as part of activities to commemorate the Caribbean Endemic Bird Festival on Dominica:
