Free Energy Island er et unikt kuppelformet hus der kan dreje rundt og energimæssigt er selvforsynende. Der findes ikke noget nord-, syd-, øst- og vestrum, der ligger fast i dette hus. Man kan dreje huset som man ønsker. Det er en helt anderledes måde at bo; det vender op og ned på vore vante forestillinger om boligen. Free Energy Island bryder således med århunderes byggetraditioner, hvor husene er blevet bygget firkantet og hovedsagelig af sten eller træ. Både kuplen og den indvendige grundplan drejer på et vandspejl, og kan følge solens gang. Det skaber ikke bare oplevelse, men også en masse energi. Free Energy Island er arkitekt Ole Steens bud på fremtidens energihus. Målet er om nogle år at kunne tilbyde huset som et attraktivt, energineutralt familiehus. Foreløbig skal huset opføres som forsøgshus i forbindelse med energikonferencen i Danmark i december 2009, og til det formål søger undertegnede økonomisk støtte. Planen er, at bruge energikonferencen som en enestående mulighed til markedsføring. En bærende målsætning for projektet er, at gøre Free Energy Island energineutralt. De energimæssige overvejelser indgår i alt, lige fra valg af konstruktion, over valg af materialer og til valg af de forskellige energianlæg. I forhold til andre energihuse er konceptet originalt, men huset trækker også på en række erfaringer.
