If you want to elaborate on the Danish history you would have to read a book about Denmark. Even though I portray the Danish monarchy I do not support the Danish monarchy today I am only interested in history.

A conflict in 1983, regarding a small island in Danish waters, show that the old grudge in no way has been forgotten! But still...today we are like a family....bickering and friendship goes hand in hand! :P note: from 1537-1814 Norway and Denmark were together in a dual monarchy - therefore many of these confrontations is also a part of Norways's history. Peter Wessel (Tordenskiold) was one of our greatest heroes - its him at 4:31. He was born in Norway, but went to copenhagen to join the royal navy. The picture at 5:21 depicts the Constituent Assembly at Eidsvoll in 1814 - this step toward Norways liberation From Denmark was made in order to prevent Sweden from getting it's hands on Norway - which didn't help...

Just outside of Copenhagen is Frederiksborg castle, built in the early 1600s by Denmark's greatest king, Christian IV. Many consider this "Danish Versailles" to be the grandest castle in all of Scandinavia. The king imported Dutch Renaissance architects to create his own striking "Christian IV style" used here and in fancy buildings all over Copenhagen. Inside the castle you'll find an excellent museum of Danish history. one occupied country in Europe did more than any other to protect Jews - Denmark. The Germans had first occupied Denmark in 1940 but it was only now, in August 1943, after Danish resistance had increased, that they imposed full military rule. Now German brutality was practiced in the open and the Danish Jews were hugely at risk. In September 1943 Hitler's representative in Denmark, Dr Werner Best of the SS, a man whose hands were already bloodied by the persecution of Jews in France and Poland, met with the German diplomat, Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz, a known sympathizer of the Danes. According to their later testimony, Best first informed him that 8000 Danish Jews would shortly be rounded up...

The military of Europe's oldest monarchy, the Kingdom of Denmark, in action throughout the centuries. Danish Vikings expanded to Iceland and Greenland, took over much of Ireland and Britain before becoming Christian. They expanded into southern Norway and Sweden with Norway being under the Danish crown until the Napoleonic wars. During the era of the Kalmar Union almost all of Scandinavia was united by the Danish monarchy. The 30 Years War and the Napoleonic Wars were considerable setbacks but Denmark later became a colonial power with holdings in the West Indies, Africa and India. After a defeat by Prussia in the war over Schleswig-Holstein Denmark adopted a policy of neutrality and stayed out of World War I but was occupied during World War II though the Germans maintained that Denmark was a protectorate rather than a conquered foe. In recent decades Danish troops have participated in a number of peace-keeping missions around the world.
