April 3, 2011 | Police of the Czech Republic arrests suspects, who allegedly provided training, weapons, money and false IDs to members of Islamic group Shariat Jamaat, which conducts terrorist attacks in the Caucasus, mostly in Dagestan. The group was under police surveillance since 2008 in action with cover name "Medvěd" (Bear). Altogether 8 men and 1 woman from Caucasus and Bulgaria were arrested, two of them in Germany (by German police on Czech request). They will become the first people in Czech history to face charges of (supporting) terrorism.

Poland's Bureau of counter-terrorist operations (Biuro Operacji Antyterrorystycznych) pl:Biuro Operacji Antyterrorystycznych, tasked with operations that the normal police can not handle and since September 11 also tasked with counter-terrorism. Training includes fast roping and explosive entry to buildings as well as helicopter extraction. Because of their training and skill level, members of the BOA and SPAP units cooperate with similar special police formations from the Czech Republic, United States, UK, Ukraine, France, and Israel. They also, on occasion, train with servicemen from Poland's Special Forces, an independent branch of the Polish military.

The RAF described itself as a communist and anti-imperialist "urban guerrilla" group engaged in armed resistance against what they deemed to be a fascist state. The RAF was founded in 1970 by Andreas Baader, Gudrun Ensslin, Horst Mahler, and Ulrike Meinhof. The Red Army Faction existed from 1970 to 1998, committing numerous operations, especially in the autumn of 1977, which led to a national crisis that became known as "German Autumn". It was held responsible for thirty-four deaths, including many secondary targets, such as chauffeurs and bodyguards, and many injuries in its almost thirty years of activity. Although more well-known, the RAF conducted fewer attacks than the Revolutionary Cells (RZ), which is held responsible for 296 bomb attacks, arson and other attacks between 1973 and 1995. The group always called itself the "Rote Armee Fraktion". The terms "Baader-Meinhof Gang" and "Baader-Meinhof Group" or just "Baader-Meinhof" are sometimes used as nicknames for the organization.
