Since its release in the Czech Republic we have been inundated with requests for an English version of,KOOKY, so here it is! Our very own "home-made" English dubbed version. It's the very first time one of my films has been dubbed into English. My preference as a film-maker has always been for subtitles, but KOOKY is too packed with visuals for these to work. I supervised the dub myself working with some of the actors from the Czech version of the film. But this time they speak in English -- or do their best to. I decided to use Czech actors, with their heavy Central European accents, to retain the film's authenticity and its connection with the fantasy world we created in the Bohemian forests. This "original home-made English version" will be available for worldwide acquisition at the forthcoming Berlin Film Festival Market. Karamazovi (eng subs) [2008] directed by Petr Zelenka The Karamazovs (Czech: Karamazovi) is a 2008 Czech movie based on the novel The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Directed by Petr Zelenka with the soundtrack by Oscar-winning Jan AP Kaczmarek, it tells a story of Czech actors who come to Polish steelworks to perform Dostojevski's The Brothers Karamazov at an alternative drama festival. As rehearsals get under way, we follow not only the emotional story examining issues of faith, immortality and the salvation of the human soul, but also the relationships within the acting troupe itself, which strangely reflect Dostojevski's "great" themes. The stage drama is transferred to the real world when a tragedy occurs during rehearsal involving one of the spectators. Karamazovi won the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) award in Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2008 and has been submitted by The Czech Republic for the 2009 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. A short film about a man reluctant to finish his whiskey, for something terrible might happen again. Hesitant he tells his story to a stranger and finds that she too hides from her past. This is not 'just' another story told by actors. Characters in this film are played by real people, with no acting experience, just the urge to tell their story. The story of being confined to a wheelchair. This film conceals their handicap up until the end of the story. In the last shot the camera reveals the truth and transforms the genre of the film into a documentary. The actors give testimonies about how people on wheelchairs are perceived by society and therefore transforming the meaning of the entire narrative.

Thousands of people marched through the center of Prague on November 17, retracing the steps of the 1989 student march that kicked off Czechoslovakia's Velvet Revolution. Actors on stilts carried outsized symbols of the revolution -- giant keys like those that were jangled by tens of thousands of street demonstrators 20 years ago to symbolize the opening of doors. Two other actors playing period riot police officers juggled their truncheons.

John Malkovich took part in one of the more unusual and colourful events at the 46th KVIFF in July 2011, a fashion show in which leading Czech actors wore clothes from the Technobohemian label designed by the great American actor, director and producer. In an interview, Malkovich spoke about what inspires him, whether some react "sniffily" to people working in fields they are not primarily known for, and how he enjoyed the fashion show.
