This is a English summary of the contents of the Czech history textbook České Dějiny stručný přehled. I made this summary/translation while studying for a history text. I never intended to post it online, but it seemed like it might be useful to others, and I don't think it's too bad. My native language is English, and I have been studying Czech for two and a half years now. Some mistakes: CZECH LANDS =/= MORAVIA, Cyrila and Metodě, came to Moravia, and not to Czechia! When I say King, I mean ruler. While making these recordings, I learned tha king means something specific. That there is a crowning, and some sanctioning by the church. None of these figures were kings. edge = border Syn = son sorry When I say "I don't understand that" what is written is that "Northern European countries diffuse into, or meet with, Western Europe." Any other mistakes? Please post a comment bellow.

Czech historical movie, the last part of Otakar Vavra's hussite trilogy. 14th July 1420: The crusade army undertook an attack on the hussite fortress on the hill Vitkov east of Prague that assured food supply to the besieged city. The hill is defended by a troop of taborites under the lead of Jan Zizka. When the fortress of the hussites is almost conquered by the flood of iron knights, a troop of Taborite flailers leaves the city gates and attacks the crusaders through vineyards on the southern side of the hill. Six decades after the communist takeover in Czechoslovakia, four decades after the Prague Spring of 68, the Czech Republic is again confronted with it's most recent past. The State-funded "Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes", which opened in the begin of this year, is in the center of an extremely polemical debate: The Institute gives access to millions of pages of secret police files. But the communist party objects that no communist party member is allowed to join the Institute's council. Left-wing opposition deputies asked the Czech Constitutional Court to abrogate the law on the basis of which the new research tool has been established, accusing the Institute of biased, right-wing interpretation of contemporary History. EuroNews invited the Institute's director and the chief advisor of the communist party to fight it out: manipulation of the past? Yes or No?

This is "Vyšehrad" from "My Country" (Má Vlast), a cycle of symphonic poems composed in 1872-74 by Bedřich Smetana (1824-1884). Vyšehrad is a castle located in the Czech Republic, built in the tenth century, on a hill over the Vltava River. Situated within the castle is the Basilica of St Peter and St Paul, as well as the Vyšehrad cemetery, containing the remains of many famous people from Czech history, among them Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana and Karel Čapek. Vyšehrad and the area around it became part of the capital city, Prague, in 1883. The area is one of the cadastral districts of the city. Performance: Czech Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Václav Talich (1883-1961). Recorded in the Rudolfinum, Prague: June 1954.
