Led by Mexico and Russia, central banks from 11 countries and the Eurozone added a combined 57.9 tonnes of gold in March 2012. Mexico raised its reserves by 16.8 tonnes, Russia added 16.5, Turkey 11.5 tonnes, Kazakhstan 4.3 tonnes, Ukraine 1.2 tonnes, while other ex-Soviet republics including Tajikistan and Belarus added less than half a tonne. In percentage terms Argentina made the biggest bet on gold, upping its reserves of gold by more than 10% to 61.7 tonnes over the month. The only sellers were the Czech Republic which reduced its bullion reserves by 4500 ounces.. Bullion purchases by central banks have provided a strong underpinning for the gold price. The world's central banks added a combined 439.7 tonnes last year - an almost fifty year high. Bayram Dincer, analyst in Switzerland said: "We expect that the recent trend of the official sector being a net buyer will continue in the medium and long term. Gold will continue to be a preferred central bank reserve asset. It is currency protection and stabilization.".. Bullion bulls are now focusing on any announcements that may emanate from the US Federal "Reserve" Bank. After failing to scale the psychologically important $1800 an ounce bar at the end of February, gold has taken a few hard knocks on the way to its current trading level of around $1640. Monday's EU summit saw the Czech Republic become the second state to pull out of the budget discipline pact. But with the European Central Bank's mint working flat out, the EU crisis is still deepening, says analyst Johan Van Overtveldt. The first EU summit of 2012, which yet again focused on the financial crisis in the region, gave the crucial go-ahead to for German fiscal rule to limit the size of member countries' spending. The UK had already bowed out of the pact in December. In a surprise move, the Czech Republic this week became the second country to pull back from the agreement, bringing the number of signees to 25 out of 27. French President Nicolas Sarkozy, already at loggerheads with UK PM David Cameron over London's reluctance to join the pact, was left bewildered by the Czech decision. "I'm not sufficiently familiar with the ins and outs of what is going on in Prague to be able to understand why what was acceptable in December is no longer acceptable now," said Sarkozy. At the same time, Poland and other Eastern European countries demanded full inclusion in the annual eurozone summits stipulated in the new fiscal agreement. Otherwise, Warsaw threatened to drop the budget initiative altogether. To analysts, the fiscal compact, which provides tough debt rules and fines for those who disobey, still looks somewhat vague. Písek is a Royal City since the13th century and the bridge that was built in the last third of 13th century at the request of the king Přemysl Otakar II. is the oldest standing bridge in Czech Republic and in Central Europe with the possible exception of a bridge in Regensburg in Bavaria, Germany. The Písek Bridge is also called "Jelení Bridge" or Elk Bridge and it was built in the Gothic style. It's almost 110 meters or about 360 feet long, 6.25 meters or about 20 feet wide and it has 7 arches. The power plant is the oldest functioning hydro power plant in Bohemia, Czech Republic. It was first used for Písek City center electric street lighting by František Křižík in June 1887. The power plant has 2 working Francis Turbines and is on the Cultural Heritage list. Enjoy.

Being in the Eurozone is not so different from being in a straitjacket - that's according to the President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Klaus. Speaking at an economic summit in Austria, the president also blamed the Euro for being responsible for the debt crisis that's currently ravaging the European Union. His comments echo growing hostility towards the single currency among nations once queuing to join the prestigious club. That as the Czech Prime Minister also questioned his country's requirement to sign up with the currency bloc, saying they were told it was a monetary union, not a debt union. But the EU leadership maintains the crisis is temporary, and the Euro is safe and secure - something that Johan Van Overtveldt, the editor-in-chief of Trends magazine, disagrees with.
