Born in 1957 Manuel Gutierrez Góngora came into the US from his native Cuba very young, when he was 12 years old. Since an early age he had a different vision of the world. Rebellious against everything he did not like, what was many things other children accepted as part of their learning process, he grew up in the heart of an exile community. Perhaps that sense of belonging to a different universe made him feel he did not belong anywhere. When he biologically matured, that division created an inner chaos. That acted like a colored glass, through which he saw a world he could not completely understand. To this day he has not been able to get that much needed understanding of the world, and as an artist, he expresses that in a very personal style. His life, like his works is like an ever changing rollercoaster leading him to the extremes. From the heights of his personal heavens, to the pits of his personal hell. Few middle grounds. Everything or nothing. That is the story of his life. How can we define his works of art, his paintings? An ever present chaos, but refined and distilled over the years. He was a prince and a beggar, he has fell to the lowest levels a human being can fell, trying to escape from a never understood, always merciless reality. That is what his works reflect. Victor Miquel Moreno Piñeiro (Painter, Illustrator), better known as Victor Moreno, is a Cuban painter and was born in Placetas, Villa Clara in Cuba. He was a student of Raimundo Garcia Parra and Master René Portocarrero. More than 40 collective exhibitions and more than ten individual exhibitions have taken place in Cuba, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. In 2000 Victor Moreno was awarded the „Combate prize. Cuba presented Mexico with a number of Victor Morenos works at Christmas 1985. One of his works can be seen in a permanent exhibition in a museum in Caracas, Venezuela and also the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) already owns a number of pictures by Victor Moreno. Victor Moreno is regarded as the „American van Gogh. 2008 Felix Busse had the possibility to make this movie in Havana.

Renato's World is tribute to Cuban painter Renato Martinez. This short film, filmed entirely at his home, showcases his colorful paintings and unique collection of bisque and ceramic figurines, among them Heubach's "piano babies". It was a common tradition for many families in Cuba to decorated and add charm to their homes with such figurines. Renato was born into a hardworking and affluent family from Camaguey, who weathered the destructive changes brought by the Cuban revolution of 1959, the least of which were the loss of their material possessions. Through this collection, Renato brings back to life the lost world of his cherished family life. The film was realized with the assistance of Barry Graynor and Concepcion Bouza, who also suggested musical selections. Video and editing by Fabricio Espasande. "The story of how I started painting is very amusing: in the Christmas of 1999 I wanted to make some new decorations because, between you and me, the ones we had in the house were horrible. So I took some hollow egg shells and made them into ornaments which I hand painted with a set of children's temperas, and my friends went crazy for them. I ended up painting more than 40 eggs, then started to make cards and then some little paintings.
