Something wonderful is happening in Cuba. Churches and the government are finding constructive ways to relate. In May, 2011, the Cuban Council of Churches celebrated its 70th Anniversary. President Raul Castro attended the closing ceremony and said, "Cuba needs God now more than ever." The President of the Council of Churches estimates that the number of Christians in Cuba has tripled in the last twenty years and predicts it will double again in the next five years. Renewed faith among Cubans who connect with any of 62 recognized denominations plus independent churches is an encouraging trend for the country. A huge void exists, however, for basic Bible study and other church resources. David C Cook and donors to Cook have been a leading supplier of free materials to Cuban believers for years. So far, Cook has legally shipped in more than 2 million books and more are being prepared now. This short video features Cuban church leaders telling their own story of God's great move in their country.

"The 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded on Thursday to Peruvian writer and a former presidential candidate. The acclaimed author previously won the Cervantes Prize in 1995, which is viewed as the highest literary honor in the Spanish-speaking world. Vargas Llosa has written over 30 novels, plays and essays. He is the author of: ""Conversation in the Cathedral"" and ""The Green House"". The 74-year old writer has been long-mentioned as a potential Nobel choice. Vargas Llosa is also known for ruffling the feathers of Latin American leaders like Venezuela's Hugo Chavez and Cuba's Fidel Castro. The Swedish Academy noted his gift for artfully mapping political divides. Vargas Llosa is currently teaching at Princeton University in New Jersey."
