The Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 5-30 (FOP) helped replenish the Mandarin Food Bank earlier today with a donation of nearly 1400 canned good items. The donation took place at the FOP Lodge and the food was then transported to the Mandarin Food Bank. The FOP began the food drive just before Thanksgiving in conjunction with WinterFest. Participants of the food drive received a discount toward tickets to the outdoor Winter Wonderland event at Adventure Landing. In addition, the FOP was able to also contribute food to the drive through other programs it conducts throughout the year. "The FOP prides itself on the work we are able to do for this community, not only through protecting our officers but also the numerous charitable activities we plan each year. Food banks across the nation are seeing a rise in families who need their services and following the holidays it can be heartbreaking to turn those away because you don't have the donations necessary", says Nelson Cuba, President of the Fraternal Order of Police.

A "Cuban Wobbler" recorded on 650 khz, August 9th, 2010 at 0058 UTC. Some attribute the "wobbling" to jamming, however I feel a more realistic explanation of this oscillation is simply a fault with the transmitter or other related equipment. Regardless, it's interesting to watch the wobbler on the waterfall display. This station is actually Radio Progresso (Cuba). Note the audio dropout at 0:40 and then the wobbler begins, ends, and the music resumes. Received while DXing from OBX (North Carolina).

Slide show of my incredible humanitarian journey to Cuba to assist the few remaining Cuban Jews, roughly 1100. You will see sites we donated money and supplies (medicine, clothes, school supplies) to. Each of us carried in our suitcase 20 lbs of supplies for the local Jewish people. Cities we visited were: Havana Trinidad de Cuba Cienfuegos You will see the old synagogue in Havana built from donations from American Jews (including Steven Spielberg) which includes a pharmacy we added our medicine to. Donated to an at risk pregnancy clinic as well as a school. Tourist sites include the ballet at the Great Theatre of Havana where we saw Giselle. The former Presidential Palace from Garcia to Battista, political square, the old port which once had a ferry to Florida some 50 years ago, a former American club, plaques that are still on buildings of former American Banks, charming old Havana's vibrant colorful restaurants, an Afro/Cuban dance show, concert of the Buena Vista Social Club as well as botanical garden made from donations from Harvard University. You will also see Ernest Hemingway's summer home, the House of Representatives as well as the first holocaust memorial in the Western Hemisphere when we visited a Jewish cemetery.

This is like the 5th time a local joint gets killed and it has to stop. I don't know why as Americans we can't force the banks to re-finance the small business community in South Florida. We need to give the local judges some power since the National Administration isn't taking action. Giving the Banks a massive bailout is like giving a crying kid a candy to shut them up, we've created a situation where when the next massive economic explosion happens Banks get a bailout but the local small business does not. It's unfair and against everything this country stood for. My grandfather who lost everything in Cuba loves America because its a land where people respect the law. When the communist took over they took his convenience store. My aunt had a pharmacy and in the middle of the night they came and took all her inventory and possessions without due process. There was no judge, no law, nobody to protect them. Our government has been powerless to stop the banks as they ruin lives and take homes. I'm not saying people don't have debts they do, but we should work with them, we should work with the small business and help them stay afloat. I never experienced Communism, but I have heard over the years time after they how they lost everything to people who showed up in trucks, rounded them up in the middle of the night ...
