Mostar was surrounded by the Croat forces for nine months, and much of its historic city was severely damaged in shelling including the famous Stari Most bridge.[62] Mostar was divided into a Western part, which was dominated by the Croat forces and an Eastern part where the Army of Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was largely concentrated. However, the Bosnian Army had its headquarters in West Mostar in the basement of a building complex referred to as Vranica. In the early hours of May 9, 1993, the Croatian Defence Council attacked Mostar using artillery, mortars, heavy weapons and small arms. The HVO controlled all roads leading into Mostar and international organisations were denied access. Radio Mostar announced that all Bosniaks should hang out a white flag from their windows. The HVO attack had been well prepared and planned.[63] The Croats took over the west side of the city and expelled thousands[62] Bosniaks from the west side into the east side of the city. The HVO shelling reduced much of the east side of Mostar to rubble. The JNA (Yugoslav Army) demolished Carinski Bridge, Titov Bridge and Lucki Bridge over the river excluding the Stari Most. HVO forces (and its smaller divisions) engaged in a mass execution, ethnic cleansing and rape on the Bosniak people of the West Mostar and its surrounds and a fierce siege and shelling campaign on the Bosnian Government run East Mostar. CROATIA - The Croatian War of Independence was fought from 1991 to 1995 between forces loyal to the government of Croatia—which had declared independence from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFR Yugoslavia)—and the Serb-controlled Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) and local Serb forces, with the JNA ending its combat operations in Croatia by 1992. In Croatia, the war is primarily referred to as the Homeland War (Domovinski rat) and also as the Greater-Serbian aggression (Velikosrpska agresija). In Serbian sources, War in Croatia (Rat u Hrvatskoj) is the most commonly used term.

December 1991: Croatian War of Independence was a war in Croatia from 1991 to 1995. Initially, the war was between Croatia and the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA). Later, the conflict turned into fighting between the armed forces of the newly-independent Croatia and the rebelling Serb minority, who proclaimed an autonomous Republic of Serb Krajina. The Serbs were supported by the Yugoslavian National Army and Belgrade. The Croatian side aimed to establish sovereignty for the Republic of Croatia, previously a federal unit in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Croatia's rebelling Serbs had wanted to remain a part of Yugoslavia, effectively seeking new boundaries in those parts of Croatia with a Serb majority or significant minority. The war was striking for its brutality and intensity.

The Yugoslav Wars were a series of violent conflicts fought in former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the 1990s and 2001. The wars were characterized by bitter ethnic conflicts between the peoples of the former Yugoslavia, mostly between Serbs on the one side and Croats, Bosniaks and Albanians on the other. Often described as Europe's deadliest conflicts since World War II, they were characterized by mass war crimes and ethnic cleansing. Albeit tensions in Yugoslavia had been mounting since the early 1980s, it was 1990 that proved the decisive year in which war became more likely. At the last Communist party conference in Belgrade in 1991, the congress voted for an end to the one-party system, as well as economic reform, which prompted the Slovenian and Croatian delegations to walk out and thus the break-up of the party, a symbolic event representing the end of "brotherhood and unity". We will never forget!!...''During the 1991-95 Croatian War of Independence (Homeland War) Vukovar, a city in eastern Croatia was attacked by the Yugoslav People's Army and Serbian paramilitary forces...It was defended by around 1800 lightly armed soldiers of the Croatian National Guard (ZNG) and civilian volunteers, against JNA soldiers and Serbian paramilitaries equipped with heavy armour and artillery. During the battle shells and rockets were fired into the town at a rate of up to 12000 a day. At the time it was the fiercest and most protracted battle in Europe, and Vukovar was the first major European town entirely destroyed since the Second World War. When Vukovar fell on 18 November 1991, hundreds of soldiers and civilians were massacred by Serb forces and at least 31000 civilians were deported from the town and its surroundings. Vukovar was ethnically cleansed of its non-Serb population and became part of the self-declared Republic of Serbian Krajina. Vukovar remained in Serb hands until 1998 when it was peacefully reintegrated into Croatia. It has since been rebuilt but has less than half of its pre-war population and many buildings are still scarred by the battle. A UN war crimes tribunal has convicted two former Croatian army generals for the persecution and murder of ethnic Serbs during the 1990's. Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac were sentenced for their roles in the four-year war between Croatia and Serbia, started when Croatia declared its independence from Yugoslavia. In August 1995 they launched Operation Storm, seizing back control of Croatia's Krajina region from ethnic Serb separatists. More than 300 Serbs were killed in the operation and about 90000 were forced to flee. Al Jazeera's Paul Brennan reports.

Zagreb, Croatia, October 16th 2011. Two police officers without a badge, caps, warrant and/or explanations brutally entered Sinisa Krcmarek's private property and arrested him. According to the Zagreb Police authrities, they wanted to apprehend Krcmarek because it was reported that he was shooting towards farmers in a nearby field, with an air rifle. Sinisa Krcmarek was a member of the organisational security of the 15.O OCUPPY ZAGREB event. Krcmarek is the Croatian Homeland War veteran from the year of 1990, a member of HVIDRA, association of Croatian war veterans, carries the title of Croatian Knight. He's also a member of Association of Croatian Homeland War Volunteers. He volunteers as a coordinator of community service, citizen solidarity movements, and a lot of others non-profit organisations. All four male members of Krcmarek family were engaged in Croatian Homeland War, and the oldest brother, Tomislav - an officer in "Tigers", the legendary Croatian Army formation - was killed in action. He didn't even got a decent funeral. Allegedly, Krcmarek is in possesion of more than 100 000 documents, which are said to prove that the Croatian government doesn't protect and serve the People and State of Croatia. During the Yugoslav civil wars of the 1990's many war crimes occurred. Slovenes, Croats, Bosnian Muslims, Serbs and ethic Albanians, all sides in these wars committed war crimes. No ones hands were ''clean'' during those wars, but one side was blamed for most of them. The Serbs The Serbs were cast as merciless villains, cutthroats, beasts, invading aggressors whose actions compared to those of the Nazi's of WW2. With this film I want to show you the other side of the story. Yes the Serbs committed war crimes during the Yugoslav civil wars, but so did the other sides. Many massacres and atrocities against Serbs were not reported. It seems no one cares about Serb casualties. In this film you will see gruesome acts of violence perpetrated against Serb civilians and soldiers. The Serbs were called cutthroats and beasts, but as you will see these terms should be applied elsewhere.

Milstein is the American photographer best known for his haunting image of Bosko and Admira, the two young lovers shot down as they tried to escape war-torn Sarajevo in May of 1993, and became known to the world as "Romeo and Juliet."
