| | First taste of European Parliament for Croatia Duration : 54 Seconds www.euronews.com At the European Parliament in Strasbourg, President Martin Schulz welcomed 12 Croatian observer MEPs. It has become standard practice for countries which are about to join the EU to send observers to take part and speak in meetings, a move which has been criticised as a waste of money. That was not on the mind of these visitors. Croatian observer MEP Frano Matušić said: "Every citizen will have a new chance, I can say. Because, of course, accession to the European Union means also new chances for all citizens of Croatia and we think that we will take this advantage." Croatia will have 12 fully-fledged MEP's once the country joins the EU which is set for July 1 next year. Another of the Croatian observer MEPs, Andrej Plenković, told euronews: "It represents a new standing in the international community for Croatia, because with accession to the EU and Nato we have achieved the objectives of the country's foreign policy." | | Holocaust Era in Croatia: History, Politics, & Nat'l Memory Duration : 74 Seconds After Germany and its Axis allies invaded Yugoslavia in April 1941, the Nazis permitted the fascist and terrorist Ustasa organization to found the Independent State of Croatia. The Ustasa instituted a reign of terror and systematically killed Serbs, Jews, and Roma (Gypsies). Croatian fascists murdered or expelled hundreds of thousands of Serbs. In the countryside, Ustasa guards burned down entire Serbian villages and killed the inhabitants. Croatian fascists raped Serbian women and tortured Serbian men. The Ustasa regime established numerous concentration camps in Croatia between 1941 and 1945. The largest was the Jasenovac complex. The Jasenovac Memorial Area Collection contains thousands of artifacts--ranging from a recipe book written by a starving Stara Gradiska camp inmate to shackles found at Jasenovac--and related materials from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's archives. In this interview, Dr. Edna Friedberg, a historian at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, discusses how history is often used for political purposes and the challenges this poses to historians. | | Albert Einstein Appeal for Croatian People Duration : 212 Seconds World renound professor Milan Šuflay was an expert on medieval Croatian history and Albanian history. In a lot of articles by Dr. Milan Šufflay (1879-1931) - a famous scholar in his day - it is easy to find a leitmotiv for the central thesis about British predominance in the world and reasons for British political behaviour. Šufflay outlined the contents and quoted from the book "The Day of The Saxons", written by Homer Lea and published in London in 1912. In this book, called by Šufflay 'the New Testament of the British world politics', there are two striking axioms: "...The first, is that anything that happens in any part of the world directly influences Great Britain. The second, is that the loss of India, after the loss of the British Isles, would be the greatest blow for the Empire..." So wrote Šufflay in his article "The British Empire" (p. 219, Dr. Milan Šufflay, Selected Essays, Vol. 2, Publications of Darko Sagrak, Zagreb 2000). In further texts, it becomes clear why the eyes of the Serbs are always turned in the direction of London, towards the creators of Yugoslavia (as described in Šufflay's article "Over The Abyss of The Two Worlds", published in "Hrvatsko Pravo" on 29th June, 1929). In this article Šufflay was the first to point his finger at the real creators of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, namely the Englishmen Wickham Steed and Seton Watson, (Šufflay, Selected Essays, Vol. 1, Zagreb 1999). An appeal sent by Albert Einstein and Heinrich Mann in May 1931 to ... His book, "The True Story of the Bilderberg Group," was published in 2005 and is now updated in a new 2009 edition. He states that in 1954, "the most powerful men in the world met for the first time" in Oosterbeek, Netherlands, "debated the future of the world," and decided to meet annually in secret. They called themselves the Bilderberg Group with a membership representing a who's who of world power elites, mostly from America, Canada, and Western Europe with familiar names like David Rockefeller, Henry Kissinger, Bill Clinton, Gordon Brown, Angela Merkel, Alan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke, Larry Summers, Tim Geithner, Lloyd Blankfein, George Soros, Donald Rumsfeld, Rupert Murdoch, other heads of state, influential senators, congressmen and parliamentarians, Pentagon and NATO brass, members of European royalty, selected media figures, and invited others - some quietly by some accounts like Barack Obama and many of his top officials.
