| teglenica arhitekti final Duration : 238 Seconds The Floating Pavilion to present arts and architecture of Croatia at the Venice Biennale is constructed on an existing barge with dimensions of 10m x 20m x 3m. It is designed by a group of 14 leading Croatian architects, who have made the recent Croatian architecture visible on the global scene. Instead of working in the usual formats of their practices and presenting speculative projects, they decided to work together on a single proposal and to have it constructed and towed toward its final destination in Venice right away. The pavilion structure is the barge's cargo, welded from 30 tons of Q385 wire mesh in more than 40 layers of varying contours. The cargo presented here maps the process of intense interaction between architects working on the common project, their collaboration with the Croatian maritime industry, and the extraordinary act of architecture it produced. Please follow the pavilion's maiden voyage across the Adriatic at www.pavilion.hr. Tags :teglenica, arhitekti, venice, biennale, ship, architecture, barge
| | Croatian President says architecture of the region is complete, during visit to Kosovo Duration : 144 Seconds Prishtina - 08 January 2010 - Outgoing Croatian President Stjepan Mesic met with his Kosovan counterpart on Friday (January 10) in Pristina for the first time during his term as president. Mesic is the highest Croatian official to visit Kosovo since it declared independence in 2008. Kosovo's President Fatmir Sejdiu said Mesic and his country were a big supporter of Kosovo's independence. "Firstly, I want to thank President Mesic and the Republic of Croatia for the powerful support they gave and continue giving to the republic of Kosovo and its people," Sejdiu said during a news conference. The president of Kosovo gifted Mesic with a "Golden Medal of Independence" for his deeds in supporting Kosovo's statehood. "The architecture of this region is finished and the whole region must join the European Union because Europe is becoming unified whether someone likes it or not. The only open question is how fast certain countries can join," the Croatian President said during his one day visit. Mesic's second five-year mandatein February and the visit to Kosovo is among his last foreign trips. "I have highlighted, as I constantly do, my official visit to the republic of Kosovo is not oriented against anyone, but to the contrary, it is for the purpose of improving regional stability and co-operation," Mesic said. Relations between Serbia and Croatia were soured after Croatia recognized Kosovo's independence in 2008, which was Serbia's former breakaway province. Both Croatia and ... | | PROTO_E_CO_LOGICS_Day02 - Sylvia Lavin_ Tenderness.mp4 Duration : 1553 Seconds The conference organized by Croatian architects Alisa Andrasek and Bruno Juricic moves to transcend simplistic visions of contemporary ecology Proto/e/co/logics: speculative materialism in architecture, a summer symposium curated by Croatian architects Alisa Andrasek and Bruno Juricic, and staged in the beautiful setting of the Rovinj archipelago on the Istrian coast, aimed to 'tease out speculative directions for architecture beyond innocent and reductive approaches to ecology.' The focus for Andrasek, co-founder of biothing in London, and Juricic, was on architects finding an agency within nature, 'a condition that is already artificial', embracing the complexity of society. Recent tendencies have indeed taken a unique set of positions, driven by mathematical and computational abstractions, as the duo observe, transforming the ways in which architects consider the 'matter-information relationship'. Now that matter itself is perceived as an active agent, and 'greenwashing' is so common, what kind of architectural speculation strategies in relation to 'denaturalised material ecology' - bearing in mind nature's modes of behavior from generative beauty to utter disequilibrium - are desirable?
