They explore issues involved in teaching English as a Second Language through reflection, discussions and theoretical readings. They apply what they learn in a week-long "English Camp" for local elementary school children by developing interactive lessons that integrate Costa Rican national science curriculum. They also explore cultural differences with week-long home stays with Costa Rican families. | | Costa Rica colorful oxcart parade Duration : 649 Seconds -For Costa Rican's, the oxcart symbolizes the country's beginning and is a national symbol for work. They are traditionally pulled by oxen, in this video you see elaborate decorations on the oxen and special wood prod to control the animals. Although they are not used today, their presence in Costa Rican culture is maintained through their elaborate designs. Considered to be an artistic tradition, the oxcarts are now elaborately painted and displayed during parades such as in this video. Here after I watch the beginning of the parade and video tape it, I am invited to ride in the cart. Lot's of fun despite the rain and the worry about the dog running in the busy Pan American Highway 2 alongside the parade as it goes down the middle of the road. The man that was walking beside the cart used the pointed cattle prod to speed up the oxen. Tags :Costa Rica, oxcart, parade, oxen, cart ride, celebration, culture

| | Travel and Culture Photography in Costa Rica by Kevin Heslin Photography Duration : 144 Seconds Kevin Heslin is a photographer originally from the Boston area that has been living in Costa Rica for the past seven years. Besides commercial and wedding photography, Kevin specializes in travel and cultural portraits. "I try to set up projects where I trek out to the middle of nowhere and am able to photograph families who live in these remote areas. There is something about these portraits that I find very noble and timeless. Families that live so far off the beaten path have such an affectionate way of interacting that I feel really privileged to be able to capture these candid moments. Recently, I hiked into a remote village in the mountains of Costa Rica, as there are no roads, and trails are fit for horses and mules only part of the year. Families in this region are for the most part self-sufficient, as they often get cut off from the rest of the world in the rainy season. The people I met there truly lived the Pura Vida lifestyle." Kevin Heslin is one of the foremost Wedding and Commercial photographers in Costa Rica. | | The Educational System in Rural Costa Rica Documentary Duration : 520 Seconds Hi! I traveled to rural Mastatal, Costa Rica over an alternative spring break through my school. Before we went, each student chose a study topic of interest and I chose the educational systems for mine. Initially I wanted to do a purely informative documentary on the educational system by videotaping my interviews with the teachers and students, gathering my footage, editing the video, and showcasing it when I returned to school. However, after I interacted with the kids, they have truly inspired me to go beyond what I came for. I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to leave something tangible after my visit and carry on everything I've seen into my future life. The teacher informed me that technology was the number one thing lacking at the schools. Because it is a tiny, rural community, they just recently got the internet. Unlike the schools here in America, the kids do not have access to computers. I would love to raise awareness about the general educational system in Costa Rica, showcase the students who inspired me, and hopefully in the future organize a laptop drive. So please message your friends, your family, your co-workers, or anyone for that matter about this. I would love to share my experience with as many people as possible. Thank you for your time in reading my very long description and I hope you like the video! Side note, this is a very amateur documentary as prior to this I have had no experience in shooting, editing, and using iMovie. | | Living in Costa Rica as an American #277 Duration : 319 Seconds www.Howtomovetocostarica.com Costa Rica is just a short plane trip away from The United States. I guess this is the reason, why so many Americans live (part- or full-time) in Costa Rica. Plane tickets are very cheap down here and as the seasons in Costa Rica are just a perfect get-away paradise, people from the US like Costa Rica as their most favorite Central-American country. Living in Costa Rica as an American does mean ultimate freedom and tropical beauty for low prices. The dry season (where Costa Rica enjoys sunshine the whole day for many weeks) is starting in December and goes all the way until February, March. This makes it the perfect country to live during the cold American winter. Living in Costa Rica as an American means not only to enjoy the sun, when it is most needed, but it also means the "pura vida lifestyle", which means friendly people, an open mentality from the locals. You also have access to the best tropical foods all year round for discount prices, as food is always growing down here. Americans are guests in this beautiful country that are welcome with an open heart -- especially if you want to invest in property or buying a house down here. The ticos love the open, friendly culture of Americans (that is at least how I observe it coming from Germany) Even if (or specially because of(??)) you as an American living in Costa Rica do NOT have access to health food stores and huge malls all the time, Costa Rica does offer so many other things you will ...
